Super Mario Bros. 2 - NES . You may be wondering why I'm posting four copies of SMB2.. I've actually never hunted down a copy of this game. One is mine from childhood, and the others were found in the wild. However I decided to keep these doubles because, when examined side-by-side (by side by side), they're all noticeably different. The longer I look at them, the more differences I spot. I unfortunately can't provide much information as to why so many variations exist (and I wouldn't doubt if there were more!), but here they are. How many differences can you spot . Aside from the sticker, the top two ARE different! Look at the trademark/registered logo on the top right on the backs! . for a back of the box shot!

Ganbare Neo Poke-Kun - Neo Geo Pocket . This awesome and interesting title is sadly exclusive to Japan (like most great games you've never heard of). It consists of two parts - one part 'virtual pet', in which you observe the pictured character 'Neo Poke Kun' in his apartment and work to keep him happy. The second part is playing mini games (a la Wario Ware) that Neo Poke Kun creates for you, with the complexity and difficulty increasing each time. The minigames typically borrowed ideas from other popular games (Pong, Breakout, Nobunaga's Ambition, etc), also similar to Wario Ware. This little guy also served as the Neo Geo Pocket mascot in Japan until the system was retired. Anyone else familiar with this lil dude

Yakuman - Game Boy . When the Game Boy was released in North America, it sported a smattering of launch tiles - Super Mario Land, Alleyway, Baseball, Tennis, and Tetris. However, there was another launch title that wasn't released outside of Japan. That game is Yakuman, a digital version of Mahjong, which actually allowed you to play with others via the GB link cable. I only picked this up recently to complete my set of GB launch titles, and if you're interested (and speak Japanese, and know how to play Mahjong), you can get a copy for about 5 Yankee Dollars. Where my mahjong players at ‍♂️

PODS - Sega, circa 1994 . Getting down tonight with a few friends and playing the most obscure Sega game you've probably never heard of - Sega Pods! This 'touchless' Simon-type clone has multiple game modes, most of which are based on memorizing patterns. So it's similar to Simon, except it's made by Sega.. and it's touchless! - you activate each pod by hovering your hand over them (<12 inches) - so that makes it so much cooler! I think Norm the VG Historian did a video about this interesting piece of game history. It was released around the same time as the Sega Pico, when Sega was trying to expand its offerings. WOLFENSTEIN-3D!! - Pictured here (from top to bottom) for the 3DO, Jaguar, PC, and SNES. This classic is known as the godfather of first person shooters, and even though it doesn't hold up as well as its successor, DooM, it's still amazing. Who doesn't love blasting Nazis in the face? And a mecha-Hitler...? C'mon!! I find it strange that the protagonist, William J. (BJ) Blazkowicz, looks different on every box cover.
