One of Aphex Twin’s first performances in New York was in 1997 (alongside Daft Punk) at a show designated for promising electronic up-and-comers in the busy landscape of rock music. Aphex Twin’s following performance in New York was last night. 22 years later. To think that this style of music which has become so popular in recent years was being crafted by guys like him that long ago, with machines instead of guitars, is pretty amazing in itself. To witness it all come together in person, looking and sounding more relevant now than ever (while still better than everyone else currently doing it), was just the reaffirming cherry on top. Hair-raising, face-melting, mind-blowing experience.
