DROWNING is the number one cause of injury related death for children ages 1 – 4. That’s a sobering statistic if I ever heard one. #Memorialday has just passed marking the unofficial start to #summer which means #swimseason is upon us. .
.
That’s why I’m so excited to have partnered with @goldfishswimschool! Growing up we learned to swim at our local pool so I knew the importance of Kai learning early. Her confidence is blooming, just two lessons ago she wouldn’t go underwater by herself. Swipe to see some footage of today’s #swimminglesson @goldfish_parkridge! Also check out my Goldfish highlight for more #behindthescenes

Before I start this is not gifted or an ad I bought this from @jojomamanbebe in the scratch card event a few weeks ago (where I got 50% off) ♀️
•
•
I bought this swim suit with floats in the body, and honestly it was so fantastic on our holiday this weekend. Harper is a water baby but she can get a little nervous when she can’t touch the bottom but loves it at swimming lessons where she has the rubber ring. I saw this when shopping and thought I’d give it a go! •
•
You can remove the floats as your child gets stronger and more able to float. •
•
As you can see she is able to kick and swim to the edge! I could of died of pride! •
If your looking for something to help your little one feel more comfortable and encourage them to be able to swim this is definitely something to look at! It comes in a red and white shorty suit for a more gender neutral approach too!!
The last 3 weeks have been amazing, we have met so many great people! Our next trip is planned for July 2020 #England #Scotland #Ireland #Wales if you want to be involved get in touch with @lifeguardmaxi, @leighmmason or through the bio, so we can make it bigger and better. Till next time have a great summer swim between the flags and have working smoke alarms #lifeguard #firefighter #uk #watersafety #firesafety #bewateraware #respectthewater #drowningprevention #lifesaver #livelearnsurvive
Stew and his wife Kim lost their toddler, Stewie, in a drowning accident more than 30 years ago. May Is Water Safety Month. To help prevent this tragedy from occurring in other families, the Leonards have raised more than $3 million dollars to support free or low-cost swimming lessons for children through the Stew Leonard III Water Safety Foundation, named in honor of their late son. “May is Water Safety Awareness month and we use this time of year to remind parents that drowning is preventable. And yet, drowning is still the second leading cause of unintentional injury death for children,” says Kim Leonard, co-founder of Stew Leonard III Water Safety Foundation. “Our family hopes that our foundation’s message will make this a safe and enjoyable summer for all.” To help spread their water safety message, Stew and Kim have written a book Stewie the Duck Learns to Swim, which has been used to support drowning prevention and water safety programs by fire departments, children’s hospitals, and police stations throughout the nation. There’s also a board book, geared to children age 3 and younger, as well as a Super Stewie Safety Toss mobile game.
Please like the page Stew Leonard III Water Safety Foundation, and help share the message of Water Safety this month with us. For more information about water safety awareness, please visit www.stewietheduck.org

Did you know that the leading cause of death in children ages 1-5 is drowning

As parents, we do everything we can to protect our kids. This includes making sure we are knowledgeable about water safety and have the proper safety measures in place to prevent water accidents. .
Keep pools fenced and gates locked
Designate an adult to supervise water play
Install alarms on doors leading to water access
Learn CPR and have emergency equipment easily accessible near pools
Teach children to swim

With summer approaching, we wanted to make sure that Maia was enrolled in swim classes - not just any swim class that would encourage splashing, bubble blowing, and getting over fear of water - but rather, a swim class that would empower her with the ability to save herself if, God forbid, she ever fell in accidentally. .
.
Over the last 6 weeks, we’ve spent 10 minutes a day, 5 days a week, working with @swimwithannetteisr on just that. Not only is Maia comfortable in the water, but she now has the skills to be able to save her life if needed. .
.
The first couple weeks were filled with lots of crying as Maia adapted to working and not just playing in the water, but by the end of our time with Miss Annette, she was laughing, smiling, signing ‘swim’, and pulling us towards the pool. .
.
We are sad that our lessons have officially come to an end, but we are so excited to practice with her this summer and return for our refresher class in November! Thanks, Miss Annette, for working with our little mermaid, loving on her, and keeping her safe everyday! .

Want to check it out for yourself? Visit infant swim.com (@infantswimmingresource), enter your zip code, and find the instructor closest to you. Babies can start as early as 6 months! I’m happy to answer any questions about our experience for those interested!

We would like to thank all the candidates who participated in our Aquatic Rescue for Surf and SUP Instructors in Toronto this past weekend. As surfers and paddlers we have the ability to save lives and the responsibility to help keep our beaches and breaks safe. A huge thank you to our partners from @waterman5 for delivering such important skills and for adapting the content to suit our coldwater environment in Canada. If you missed the course, stay tuned for future sessions working towards safer lakes, rivers and oceans north of the border. @lucasmurnaghan
May is Water Safety Awareness Month and with the warm temps slowly rolling in, there’s no better time to brush up on basic water skills
Fox has been taking swim lessons at @goldfish_williamsville since January and I’m consistently impressed with how much he’s learning like how to float or use his feet to kick. He wakes up most mornings and excitedly asks, “Am I going to swim school?” Post a selfie sharing water safety and tag #WATERsafetyGSS to be entered to win a year of free swim lessons courtesy of @goldfishswimschool!
