Things are going to be very hectic with work this month... which means I don’t have as much time to meal prep but that’s ok because it’s challenging me to get creative with what and how I order my food at restaurants in NYC
One of the biggest things I’ve learned is not to be shy about asking for modifications or substitutions. A lot of restaurants may not have food that caters to your nutrition goals printed on the menu - but ask if they can tweak it a bit and you’ll often be happy with the results
For example, I ordered this low fat tuna salad “sandwich” with tomatoes and avo “wrapped in lettuce, no bread”. The deli counter guy said he hadn’t done it before but he would try - and this wrap was the result! So don’t be afraid to experiment because I’ll definitely be ordering my sandwiches wrapped in lettuce going forward

Happy Mother’s Day to ALL of you sweet ladies out there. Every woman is a mother in some way. Whether your children are your own, fur babies, or someone else’s child who you know & love. We are ALL mamas! And in case this Mother’s Day is not a happy one for you, I wanted to share a chapter of my own journey in hope that it might help even 1 person feel not so alone.

I have 3 children. After my first baby life was exhausting and hard but I was still doing well. I had one year of college left and was busy but excited to finish and be a full time mom. My dream! Shortly after I graduated, my second baby was born. I never anticipated that it would be one of the darkest times of my life.
.
For the next 2 years, I sunk deeper and deeper into a state of lifelessness. It was hard to get off the couch. I dreaded waking up in the morning. NOTHING brought me joy, even things I used to love. And the worst part of all was that I didn’t want to be around my kids. I didn’t know who this person WAS. On one family trip to see my mom she looked into my eyes and said “You’re not there.” and that she thought I had postpartum depression. I said, “No I don’t. I’m not sad.” And I didn’t know it at the time but, for me, depression doesn’t manifest itself as a feeling of sadness. It’s exhaustion and lifelessness.

I had heard about postpartum depression and after researching went to see my doc. He put me on antidepressants and 3 weeks later I was a different person. It felt like I suddenly “woke up” and had enthusiasm for life again.
.
In the years since then I’ve had ups and downs with depression. It might just be something I always struggle with. This past April was particularly bad. When I asked for prayers on IG stories I was overwhelmed with the loving responses from YOU GUYS Thank you for your prayers. @theminimalmermaid you are an ANGEL.

I write this so that if any of you are in that dark place right now you can feel a little more hope and a little less alone. KEEP HANGIN ON MAMA. Don’t you quit. You are SO important & have a light to bring to the world that only you can give, even if it doesn’t feel like it right now. My heart goes out to YOU this Mother’s Day. Xoxo
I’m off to swim in the warm seas of western Mallorca today; we used to have family holidays there when I was a kiddo in the seventies but I’ve never explored the mountains or the north coast; so looking forward to it, no crowds or queuing, we had considered a city break, and a return to journals books and my film camera. Much needed creative break coming up.

There are many techniques when blending essential oils, but one way is to keep it simple and simply select one top, one middle and one base note oil. .
This was made for many one of the students in my last 8 week Oil Expansion Mentorship course. She has an uncanny ability to select just 3 oils and create something extraordinary! .
Her passion is in making customized blends for people (she now gets paid to do this!) and she has an exceptional ability to meld her knowledge and her intuition about the oils together. Which is what I hope for and help develop in all my students. .
This one is a blend of lime (top), cypress (middle note) and cedarwood (base). You can adjust the ratios depending on if you want it more vivacious and bright (lime), more Qi moving and fresh (cypress) or more woodsy and grounding (cedarwood) aroma. I double up on the lime, personally, I because I LOVE citrus and the mood boost it provides. .
In a 10 ml roller bottle I add about 10-12 drops of lime, 6 drops of cypress and 3 cedarwood. Start there and adjust as needed. .

Suffering from the uncomfortable pain in low back?
Try these simple movement to get the mobility in your spine. .

Child's pose with blocks; Blocks under your forehead will allow your hips to sink down deeper on your heels. Open your knees wide, with your big toes together to avoid the roundness in your back. .

Cow pose; Arch your back! We round the back all the times, but we DO have natural curve in our spine!
.
Cat pose; Pull the naval in! Squeeze your belly muscles! Round your back but with your CORE ENGAGED! Strong core is essential to protect your back.
.
Cat pose with knees off; This will strengthen your abs even more! Try with your upper back rounded. Protract your shoulder blades. Roundness in your back is MUST in this exercise
.
Thread the needle pose; This will give the gentle twist for your entire spine. Twisting is SO rejuvenating for our spine! Also good stretch for the outer shoulder.

Half Uttanasana ; Stand against the wall with your palms in line with hips, and hips over the heels.
Bend your knees slightly so that you don't round your back. (Because you can't get the extension in your spine with the straight legs unless you have open hamstrings!)
Keep your upper body at hip height.Because you'll start to round your back if you go lower
Maintain the flat back, or you rather arch your back. Stretch your sides body by pressing your palms against the wall.

Try these stretch with your breath. And listen to your body always

So many of us don't realise the power our own thoughts can have and how negative and disempowering habits can stem from something that appears so innocuous, at first.
When facing something as harrowing as not being able to conceive naturally, your confidence can take a massive blow and I often see patients lose their identities because they become so fixated with the outcome of their treatment, they forget who they are and to honour themselves. This sometimes means that the fertility journey becomes an aggressive self punishing pursuit. Relationships can suffer as a result of your whole world turning inwards and these symptoms become synonymous with depression. In fact, many studies have shown that men and women suffering from infertility suffer from similar levels of depression to those diagnosed with cancer. We're dealing with something so intertwined with our sense of purpose, which is that of procreating, that when it doesn't happen, for a lot of people the consequences can be incredibly harrowing on their sense of self worth, their job, their intimate relationships and ultimately their own health.
This is why I'm so passionate about addressing the mental health aspect of infertility for both men and women and using resources such as affirmations, meditation, hypnosis, acupuncture, shamanism and other healing modalities, to help people to recognise there's an issue, and then to deal with it in a healthy and balanced way.
Sometimes I tell my patients to just give themselves a big hug, to literally wrap their arms around themselves and hug for a minute, letting all the anger and self blame dissipate, as you start to see yourself as someone who is vulnerable, scared and just needs that reassurance that comes from self compassion. We wouldn't hesitate to do this with a friend or someone in need, so why can't we start to do it for ourselves as well?
