Lithuania’s most visited spot, Trakai Castle, is found in the only Historical National Park in Europe. The area is filled with forests, lakes, villages and islands making it a popular spot for sailing, paddle boating, swimming, SUP, hot air ballooning and kayaking. We opted for the latter two and enjoyed sunset under this pink sky. Floating in a hot air balloon ...the original way to experience a birds eye view. Earlier this week I had the opportunity to take to the skies in Lithuania thanks to @tinggly. We gracefully drifted over the lakes of Trakai at sunset, which has now become my favourite spot in the Baltics. Edited with my ‘Reizen’ preset from my main pack, Timeless Journeys #flyawaypresets I edit pretty much all my photos with my presets ‘Azur’ and ‘Reizen’ from this set - I think 99% of my feed is with these two ✨ How cute is this street with hot air balloons?! We passed this while heading to a cafe (also super cute - @augustasirbarboracafe has such a pretty interior!) on Stikliai gatvė. I didn’t realise until later that it was part of the #kulturosnaktis (Culture Night) installation! ✨ I think it’s a nice difference from the classic umbrellas - after all, you can do a hot air balloon ride over Vilnius Old Town or Trakai Island Castle we did one yesterday over Trakai at sunset [invited] and it was so awesome! Such an epic way to see the castle and what a unique experience to have thanks @tinggly and @oreivystescentras for the experience! Previously I’ve shown you the outside of some of the churches in Vilnius... well the interiors are just as (or more!) stunning ✨ We visited this church as part of a walking tour ‘Vilnius Old Town’ and it was so interesting to learn about the different churches in the city, as well as the former German, Polish and Jewish areas of the city. This church is the Dominican Church of the Holy Spirit, located on Dominikonų gatvė. ✨ There was a wooden church here since the 15th century and then in 1501, it was given to the Dominican Monastery, the oldest order in Lithuania. The current church dates back to the 18th century and the cupola is one of the most beautiful parts ✨ As I mentioned before, a lot (or all) of the churches were closed in tsarist and in Soviet times. This church was closed down during tsarist times and the nearby monastery was closed and converted into a prison, where many Lithuanian patriots were imprisoned during the 19th century. ✨ PS: under the altar, there is an entry to the vaults where you will find crypts and dungeons! Sadly I don’t believe you can visit them but there are lots of urban legends relating to these crypts for example, some people say the mummified remains and skeletons that were found there are the French soldiers from the 1812 invasion or maybe of victims of the Inquisition or the plague... others say that these dungeons and tunnels were where two lovers (Sigismund II Augustus, Grand Duke of Lithuania, and his mistress Barbara Radziwiłł) would meet in secret ✨ I love learning about urban legends surrounding places like this have you heard any interesting (or scary!) legends about places on your travels? ✨ #TFGinVilnius #vilniusnow #church_masters #churchesoftheworld #lietuva #lithuaniangirl
