While hiking back to my car I decided to swing by a vernal pool that I’ve seen spotted turtles in earlier in the year. Despite the pool having been entirely dry about 5 days prior, it was largely full this evening. I decided to scout with around the edges with a flashlight to see what I could see, and was happy to find a male spotted turtle cruising around. I took photos of his plastron and carapace for my records and released him (make sure you swipe through for the release video!). El Queltehue o Treile, también conocido como Tero, es el centinela del lugar donde se encuentra, es quien da la alerta ante cualquier amenaza que perciba. Posee una relación bastante cercana con los pueblos, una de las interacciones que tienen es cuando el Queltehue vuela por la noche y emiten sus vocalizaciones llamando a la lluvia, siendo esto un buen presagio. En época de crías, pueden ser muy agresivos y defensores de sus pichones y huevos, estos atacan en repetidos vuelos rasantes con sus dos espolones.
