Beautiful drone video filmed last Saturday of fun and frisky Gray Whales who seemed to be enjoying the company of each other, and at times, dolphins too! While most mating behavior typically happens in the Baja lagoons, it's not uncommon to see courtship and mating behavior during the migration route.

Woohoo! We saw our first blue whale of 2019 this morning! Blue whales are the largest known animal on earth. It's unusual for us to see one in early April. They typically start showing up in May. Blue whales visit #danapoint to feed on tiny krill.

#tbt 2012 Gray whales feed primarily in the Bering and Chukchi Seas on small crustaceans called amphipods. Usually a gray whale dives to the bottom, rolls on its side, and scoops up a mouthful of mud. The whale closes its mouth and pushes out the water and bottom sediment through baleen plates that hang from the upper jaw, leaving behind the amphipods to swallow.
Sometimes though a hungry and opportunistic gray whale will try to find something to eat on the seafloor or in the water column during the migration route.
