Bases, you are the first line of defense between your flyer and the floor. Should something go wrong, you should do everything possible to keep them from hitting the floor or at the very least softening their fall as much as possible. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
Until I started teaching in the US I had never heard the term ‘base spotting’. For me, it was just part and parcel of my role as a base. When your flyer steps up there, they are putting their trust and their faith in you to keep them safe and so you’d better own that. That level of trust is no small deal, so you have to take it seriously. Do not rely on your spotters or mats. Use them by all means, and I encourage you to use them. But know that the flyers safety is in your hands, figuratively and literally. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
You’ll get kicked on the way down. You’ll get hit on the way down. It’s part of it. Them kicking you will hurt you less than the floor would hurt them. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
We had this pretty spicy fall in training, but thanks to our quick instincts @theveganacrobat was absolutely fine. She dusted herself off, and we tried this trick again. With the addition of one more crash mat. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
The only thing she hurt? She said her foot hurt a little and she didn’t know why. Turns out, her foot hurt because she kicked me in the back of the head. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖

I’m a big fan of more ‘active’ or ‘engaged’ stretching, especially for men who tend to have a lot more of what I have randomly named and have no scientific basis to call ‘neurological tension’. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
Translation: They just seem stiff as all fuck. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
This stretch, and this kind of active stretching, work wonders for men like that. Gotta fight their tension with more tension. Fight with baby. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
