What is it about chopping ones hair that makes a woman feel so invigorated and strong? Ever since my Mama was diagnosed with breast cancer I’ve grown my hair out for a few years and cut it short to donate as much as I can. This time I had 16 inches to donate... only an inch shorter than last time. If anyone would like to donate in anyway possible, @wigs.for.kids is an absolutely fantastic nonprofit organization to give to! Also, I can’t thank @classy__dinosaur with @evolvedcolorstudio enough for squeezing me in on such short notice. She’s so patient and has quite a talent! Well, the hair is gone! It made a mess everywhere. Partially because it was weirdly satisfying to pull out I finally decided to cut it off, on the 10th. ‍♀️ . I decided to donate it - if I can't have it, I figure there's a kid who could use it. I can't imagine dealing with #hairloss so young #wigsforkids it'll be in the mail soon . @angelaparis_sandiegostylist did an amazing job and gave me a great cut - thanks girl! Zech and I ended up shaving it all off after chemo on 5/17/19. We figured it would be far less miserable to do it then, before chemo side effects hit (Still crappy but SO MUCH BETTER than round 1 was with the flu!). . I think a lot of women find it empowering to shave their heads before it all falls out due to chemo. For me it was 98% just relief to not have hairs all over me, the couch, the bed, all my clothes, the shower, the car - and 2% curiosity of what kind of head shape I have ‍❓ . The 3rd pic shows the transition (start at the bottom left and go counterclockwise): 1 and 2 were prep work. 2 is my head after we had fun pulling out all the loose hair - super fun btw . 3: We did a quick #KevinMalone haircut - because HOW COULD I NOT - and then 4) @zechdoran did the shave. . Windy days are nice & I don't have hair in my face or tickling my nose. Showers are wayyy less work. Hair won't be clogging up drains or vacuums. The worst part is how pale my head is . I've noticed people do double takes - & I can tell they're wondering why I'm bald - I'm considering making a shirt that says "Yes, I have cancer" on the back, just to get that out of the way . I never imagined at 29 I'd be doing this. I'm so grateful God's given me a sense of humor, I take all of this seriously but it doesn't mean I have to be serious all the time. I'm not in denial about the magnitude of this weird season of my life, but I am choosing to embrace the good days and moments when they come and fight for them. What would we be without laughter? . I'm still me, just with a weirdly pale head instead of too much thick black hair. I'm not sad about it. I'm glad to be able to see this as temporary. Losing my hair to fight #ovariancancer? 100% worth it.

#flashbackfriday to that one day I chopped all my hair off and donated it to @wigs.for.kids . I recently received an email from them saying that my hair had officially been made into a wig that would be given to a child in need. Talk about a great feeling. And even though my hair doesn’t flow in the breeze anymore and I can’t flip my hair like Fabio when I come out of the pool, it’s the greatest feeling to have short hair again.

As the official Armpit of Zero Waste, I knew it was time to chop my hair off when it kept getting stuck in my...yeah, armpits!! This is my fourth donation to @wigs.for.kids and the longest at 18 inches! I love that Wigs For Kids never charges the kiddos for a wig, what a gift . I took some #ClimateAction by walking to the salon.
