The design of a swimming pond or natural pool can be formal or natural, large or small, but the underlying technology is the same. A conventional swimming pool uses chemicals to kill micro-organisms in the water such as phytoplankton and bacteria. OSS instagram editor Laura swam the Afon Glaslyn in Snowdonia from source to sea this weekend with two other swimmers. They were swimming to highlight the issue of micro plastics in our waterways. They took 36 litres of water to sample in the lab @bangor_university with Dr Christian Dunn. This research will give us a better understanding of how micro plastics enter our waterways and at which point. The @theoutdoorswimmingsociety have partnered with @surfersagainstsewage to highlight the issue of single use plastic in our waters. Winter paddle boarding is usually the best kind. It’s cold enough to keep the crowds away, quiet enough to coax the wildlife out and wet enough that it doesn’t matter if you fall in as you’re already soaked through!!
