Baia’s Wine Tsolikouri from the Georgian region of Imereti. Aged in Qvevri, this is a dry, unfiltered, amber wine made from Tsolikouri.

: My first experience with this Grape. Exceptional. Shows a luscious body that comes across the palate with notes of apricot, honey, bees wax, ripe peach and happiness - that lingers on the finish. Have a bunch of bomb Georgian Qvevri wines @juliosliquors (and we ship )!
One more time a little bit skeptical about 1995 vintage in champagne...! Tasted side by side with Louis Roederer Cristal 1995. Amber gold color. Nose quite open and generous. Nice minerality, rocky character, same impression with 1996 vintage tasted 2 months earlier. Sugared fruits and sugared fruits purée. Caramel and slight oxidation, and nutty character. The palate shows gamy aromas. Nice mousse, sharp acidity. Maybe too sharp. Acidity is too overwhelming. The overall thing is too lean and lacks concentration. When higher in temperature, the wine will get a bit more dense but not enough. I like it fat and creamy! The wine is strict and vinous (again, same impression as 1996). After this flight we opened a 1996 Dom Pérignon that revealed MAGICAL (and much better than RD 1996). It has been 3 disappointing bottles of 1995 recently (Cristal, RD, Krug) despite good Dom Pérignon 1995 and insane Taittinger Comtes de Champagne 1995. Hard to make an opinion. Cheers!

Our wines/flights last night were served all over the place but here are the 3 reds.
Dujac MSD 2010 - An agreeable wine, and unmistakably Dujac with the stems.
Rousseau Charmes 2013 - A beautiful wine, with lovely aromatics. Quite powerful for the vintage but with lots of purity and finesse. Predominantly red fruited with a tinge of soil, stone and roast meats. Rousseau’s “non trinity” have really stepped up in quality in recent years and this was a real treat!
Cathiard Reignots 2012 - Such a superb wine, and my WOTN. It’s taken some time for me to appreciate Cathiard but this was stunning. Powerful, with a dazzling bouquet of spice, pepper, violets, oak and vanilla cream. Palate was rich, creamy, intense and balanced. Like the Cathiard Malcon 2012, another flawless showing! Thanks @dcwinesg for the pull, absolute top class!

La giornata trascorsa al #vinitaly ci ha permesso di andare a salutare degli amici dell’Alto Adige.
Si tratta di produttori che ci hanno ospitati nelle loro cantine, in quello che per noi è da anni il ‘venerdì di Merano’; ossia il venerdì precedente al sabato del Merano wine Festival.
Avrete capito pertanto, amici lettori, che abbiamo trascorso le prime due ore nei 100 metri quadrati del padiglione 6 che ospitava Lorenz Martini, Arunda, Elena Walch, Saint Michael Eppan e Nals Magreid.
Il Comitissa brut Riserva di Lorenz è sempre fantastico. L’annata 2014 che abbiamo assaggiato ha colpito tutti per la sua acidità e persistenza al palato.
Assolutamente degno di nota il Pinot Grigio 2017 della cantina di San Michele Appiano.
Si tratta di un bianco dal colore giallo paglierino con venature dorate. I profumi sono molto complessi; ricordano frutti come la pesca e la pera.
In bocca il vino risulta piacevolmente sapido e minerale.
Josef di Nals Magreid ci ha fatto ricordare….in realtà non se l’era dimenticato nessuno…quanto sono ottimi i loro prodotti.
Su tutti ha forse spiccato la riserva Anticus Baron Salvadori. Si tratta di un blend di Cabernet Souvignon e Merlot che si distingue per potenza ed eleganza al tempo stesso.
Di Arunda per chi non lo avesse ancora assaggiato…..reato da punire penalmente…….consigliamo il nuovo dosaggio ‘0’: l’Arunda Zero.
Di Elena Walch ricordo soprattutto i sapori balsamici e lievemente mentolati del Gewurztraminer. Qui ho stupito tutti decidendo che in bocca mi ricordava la resina di un abete sotto il quale ero solito andare a giocare da piccinoforse avevo già fatto troppi assaggi pero’!!!!
Be’ è stata davvero una bella giornata!!!!
Gli amici altoatesini non finiscono mai di stupirci per la qualità dei loro vini e per la simpatica accoglienza.
