- WINSFORD - The stunning scenes exhibited in the beautiful Exmoor village of Winsford encapsulate the South West of England for me; beautiful sights and a chocolate box village portraying quintessentially rural English scenery. Situated roughly in the centre of the West country’s second largest National Park, the village possesses a 16th century pub and hotel- the ‘Royal Oak’, a community Post Office, a sole shop and a quaint tea garden. An obvious pull for visitors, the village is well-connected by country roads to other Exmoor tourist attractions such as the ancient Tarr Steps and the neighbouring settlements of Dulverton and Exford. Nearby Winsford Hill is the site of the ‘Wambarrows’ - a number of Bronze Age burial chambers. The village first appeared in the Domesday book in 1085 with it’s name deriving from the small ford (a narrow passable shallow river) which crosses the Winn Brook before it meets the larger River Exe. The parish Church of St Mary Magdalene dates back to the Norman period before the 13th century and has been designated as a Grade I listed building by English Heritage. SHOULD HAVE GONE TO SPECSAVERS! It turns out that Rannoch's huge colt foal is actually a filly!! The good news is that Alistair has an appointment at the opticians (no joke!) the better news is that the foal can be registered as a full pedigree shire. Here "she" is getting up on those long legs.
