The Mackenzie Valley wolf, or Northwestern wolf, lives in packs consisting of a dominant breeding pair and their offspring. These packs consist of 6 to 12 wolves on average. However, some packs can be as large as 20 to 30 members. The largest recorded pack consisted of 37 members. Northwestern wolves commicate with vocalizations and body language. Coastal wolves have evolved alongside the ocean for millenia.  From offshore islands to the large mainland salmon-filled watersheds,  knowledge passed through generations of wolves have made them experts at living off the ocean and all that it provides. This isolation and interaction with the marine environment have made coastal wolves genetically and behaviourally distinct from packs on the mainland, who have suffered through decades of human-caused genetic bottlenecks created by our extermination programs. When we sponsor wolf killing, we are not only disturbing current pack structure – we are forcing irreconcilable change on centuries of social and genetic evolution. We do not have the right to that kind of control under the pretence of management. The government is planning to continue predator and primary prey killing programs to make up for the destruction that industry has created in caribou habitat in the interior. The Ethiopian wolf usually hunts alone, during the day. They will sometimes hunt at night in the areas where they are persecuted. Although they hunt alone, they are still very social animals and defend territories as packs. These packs contain up to 12 individuals. Ethiopian wolf packs are not similar to grey wolf packs, as Ethiopian wolves can have multiple breeding pairs within a pack.
