I like that I'm messy. I like that sometimes my mouth gets ahead of my brain, and then sometimes my brain keeps my mouth shut for longer than it should. Some areas if my space are meticulously kept-- I hate a messy, cluttered home. My work space though...it usually looks like a color bomb with some sawdust added for good measure exploded in the middle of a tornado during a birthday party for a 2-year-old who's been throwing cake around all day. Yes, that glorious! This is how my brain is, too. As I've gotten older I've realized this is a STRENGTH and not a crutch. It is flexibility within myself to not be super rigid or super uptight. It makes me a better artist, mum, friend, and overall person. Case of the Monday Blues? Not around here. Monday, in fact, is my favorite day of the week; I feel like everything is fresh and new. You've got a clean slate to work through everything that has been heavy the previous week. This is the 84×54×2 table top I had been working on for the past 4 months. Done in my signature spin off of the trendy River tables, I am tickled to be able to show you what she looked like on her way into her new home. I had to assemble the base for this table in stages in order for it to come together. That moment when the top storage compartment clicked right into place was one of the most satisfying parts of this build. I had no idea if this base idea was going to work, so seeing it all come together like that was such a great feeling. An even better feeling was when I jumped on it and it didn’t fall apart. Ha!

The storage box for this table was like a whole build of its own. I cut the pieces on my miter saw at 30 degrees on the ends using a stop block with the matching angle to make sure they were all the same length. Then traced the inside of the hexagon onto a 1/4” sheet of plywood for the bottom. Added about 3/8” to that hexagon so it would fit in a groove in the bottom of the box and cut it out at the bandsaw. The @mlcswoodworking Merle clamp really came in handy To make sure those miters were tight when gluing up! I strengthened those miters by adding splines using my tenoning jig. I didn’t know if it would work well, but it held the box tight and ended up working out perfectly! Love that I was able to use that tenoning jig and didn’t have to make a spline jig!

Before I left I mapped out several sheets of plywood with my new @kaprotools squares. The ledge keeps it on the sheet...Game changer..... And the combination square is magnetic so I don't have to worry about losing the twisty knob. I will be able to hit the ground running when I get back with a pile of plywood marked and ready to cut.

Sunday in the shop= Planing. There are very few tools that save you quite as much time as a planer does.
