Refinish of 3/4" x 3 1/4" solid old growth Douglas Fir floors and stairs. We had to sand this one delicately as it had already been sanded so many times. This is the last time a sander should touch these floors. They turned out pretty nice for old growth fir floors as they are often times bruised and in bad shape. Bleached and stained with DS Ebony stain. Cleaning the weathered deck with some good old wood bleach. Sure you can buy a number of premixed deck cleaners at the big box store but for just over $5, I can do an entire deck, stair, and rail. . . I mix it up in a Hudson can with hot water. Then spray it on and scrub the crap out of it with a stiff bristled brush on a broom handle. I clean up the hard to reach areas with the pressure washer. Trialed bleaching some of the color out of this #pecan this evening. We have a customer who likes the #locallysourced #pecan but not the high contrast between the #sapwood and #heartwood This experiment was mildly successful but I think we need more. My husband had this countertop built for me, (thanks Mike, Dale Lumber) Christmas a year ago. It added a few inches of height to an 1880s base cabinet I use as a counter in my kitchen. The cutting boards, family cookbook, and a graniteware pan (holding large cooking utensils), slides into the two spaces under this beauty. I give both counters a heavy duty cleaning a few times of year. Wood Bleach is used first and left on until the stains disappear. Borax is next, to neutralize the wood bleach.
