Meet Noodle! All I want to do right now is rub her little ears and give her a scratch! I miss having cats in my life. But creating some portraits will do for now. I love the bright, BOLD background choice made by Noodle’s human. All of my personal pet portraits have bright colors too. Do you lean toward bold and bright, or are you more neutral in your color choices? #paintingwithwool
Y’ALL. I said I would do the thing and I DID THE THING!!! It only took 14 months to complete (no joke.) I’m stepping away from this piece and going on vacation in a couple days, and I’ll do final adjustments and stretch her when I return. I’m so elated to finally have finished the hippo! It was definitely a learning experience and truly an exercise in perseverance and tackling self-doubt. I already have my next BIG portrait chosen...but you’ll have to wait to see what it is! #paintingwithwool #hippoportrait #artistsoninstagram
A peek into my process for tackling tabby cats. After I complete the eyes and nose, I block in the darker spots and stripes. Then I fill in the other fur sections and colors while adding individual lines of fur to mimic texture. ✌ Using a bright color for the background is impactful in the end, but difficult on the eyes and hard to completely cover with fibers. On a recommendation of a student last week, I have a piece of green paper next to me to look at occasionally to balance the constant firing of the red cones in my retinas after looking at the pink felt. It’s totally working and my eyes are grateful! #paintingwithwool
