B A D D A Y S | Noticing more and more how when I feel down I have no motivation to post on this app. The positive posting bias is real which is why when we all use this app we can feel like everyone else is having the best time ever and we are feeling and alone. The positive psychology school of thought that you can think yourself out of a bad mood in my opinion only encourages us to suppress and ignore our true feelings and stigmatises ‘negative emotions’ which ultimately gives these feelings more power over us. Hey everyone! My name is Egle and tomorrow is day one of #ALOboutyou yoga challenge.
And the questions we have for you are :
How did you start yoga and what is the earliest pose that you remember learning?

My yoga journey started unexpectedly- like most of us I guess.
I suffered from a knee injury when I was 14, which left me unable to walk for a long period of time. It was a slow healing process but I couldn’t recommend yoga enough to anyone – it has changed my life!

I slowly started with Bikram yoga when I was in university. It was my dad who pointed me towards yoga actually- he read in the paper that Bikram yoga is very good for everyone but particularly for people who have had injuries. I went to my first Bikram class when I was in the 3rd year of university. It was a very slow start but, little by little, I started to see progress.

My regular practice started two years ago and I have never looked back. My knee still hurts sometimes, but it is a part of me now. It shaped my personality and I guess it made me more determined. Since I found yoga, I have never felt better. I want to become a yoga teacher one day. I want to deepen my knowledge and continue to practice and I want to help others and hopefully inspire them, too.

One of the first poses I remember learning was #updog - it took me a long time to learn how to open up my chest and relax those shoulders but once you do- it feels really good

Press handstand drills ✨.

For your straddle press handstand, you need to have good compression (the ability to squish your torso to your legs which is going to require both hamstring flexibility and strength in the hip flexors). Even if you’re not working on pressing, strong hip flexors are helpful for just holding a handstand- so this is great to work on!.

With this exercise you want to lean your torso forward over your leg as much as possible so that you’re really working the hip flexors.
.
If it’s crazy impossible, put the block down so it’s not as high. If it’s still impossible, get rid of the block, see if you can lift your leg any amount. Then maybe make some circles with your foot in the air. Then when you get strong enough, come back to the block.

If you’re very strong in the hip flexors, put another block on top and make a taller wall to get over!.
.
Finish with a wide leg forward fold to work on your hamstring flexibility here. .
