Mama, we made it! ⚪️

I've been making a genuine effort in making sure I share with you all the not-so-glamorous aspects of my life and work here on the blog— so here it goes. As I mentioned briefly, last week I had the privilege of attending Harvard's 2019 Urban Humanitarian Emergencies Course cohort. What did this course entail you ask? Well in short, we focused on how to shift from an output-based perspective on emergency response to one that is centred on genuine and personal impact. ⚪️

As someone who comes from a development background, it was fascinating to discuss the dichotomy and divergence of overlaying themes and practices within development and humanitarian work. Being the youngest person in the class, I wanted to take the time to express how truly grateful I am to have had the opportunity to discuss and network with leaders from the field. I hope to take all that I've learned and apply it to my role in future capacities. ⚪️

And finally, a huge thank you to my friends and mentors at @yorku_intl and @yorkulaps for helping make this possible. I'm forever grateful for your support. Here's to Harvard— to many happy and hopefully soon returns!
What makes @yorkuniversity life so great is the many people you encounter on this journey, people from all over the world. I have interacted with students from dozens of countries around the world and this has taught me to appreciate different cultures and views. I am always looking forward to the interesting conversations to be had and the smallest of things such as learning how to say hello in Russian to how to cook a specific Persian cuisine. Additionally, the bonds one makes in university may never break.
Be brave and look forward to a new chapter in your life, and being afraid is normal, because it is only when we are afraid that we need to be brave.
Enjoy the rest of the summer, looking forward to another great year at YorkU! ❤ #YorkU60 #ad
