Alright, this is a two-in-one post for days 2 and 3 of @zetahex’s #zetahexmoviechallenge! Martyrs is my “Challenging” film for Day 3. This is one of my favorite movies of all time and I truly think it’s a beautiful work of art, but it left me so drained after watching it. I think the hardest part of watching this movie is that the brutality is contrasted by moments of humanity and love. It shows the best and worst of what humans are capable of. A remarkable film and one I will eventually rewatch, but only when I’m mentally prepared again. The film I chose for Day 2 may not seem like a tear-jerker to everyone, but when I was a kid, Dumbo genuinely made me cry because of the fact that everyone bullies him for being different, but even more so because of the heartbreak he and his mother experience by being separated. Finally watched From Beyond and have now seen all of the Gordon/Combs/Crampton collaborations. Unpopular opinion, but I liked Castle Freak the best! However, Re-Animator and From Beyond are amazing horror-comedies. From Beyond felt the most Lovecraftian, which I appreciated. I also liked that Barbara Crampton had a bigger role that felt complex and she drove the plot a great deal. Another thing I liked was the color pallet. It was super moody and felt like a painting. The body horror and practical effects were my favorite part, though. It’s the end of @zetahex’s super fun #maymoviechallenge today! Of course I forgot to post yesterday. The theme today is an ode to a director and I chose Sam Raimi whose movies have had a big effect on me from a young age. I remember going to see the first Spiderman in theaters and it was a big deal because my parents were very picky about what kind of content me and my siblings were exposed to growing up. I LOVED it and now those are some of my favorite superhero flicks. I also featured pictures from his other trilogy that is important to me and my favorite franchise ever. Playing catch-up once again for @zetahex’s #zetahexmoviechallenge! For today, I had to go with a film that gives me the creeps! There’s a lot of great options, but I decided to go with The Blair Witch Project. I was so creeped out after seeing this one for the first time. A personal favorite. Yesterday, I was supposed to go with a thrilling movie, so I chose The Silence of The Lambs. It’s a classic for a reason. Such a good psychological thriller and crime thriller. Finally, day six was a movie that had me questioning life, and I chose Arrival.
