It took a village. // “That is going to be huge, how are you going to do that?” Bobby asked as I confirmed a commission that was going to be 7 by 7 feet. “The same way I make every other one, at home.” I replied. But I was wrong. I was wrong. You see, writing down details, making measurements, going over ideas is very much different than actually doing it. I thought, I’ve made a 5 by 5 piece, how much larger or harder can something that is 7 by 7 be? @bobgoodwin seemed to know something that I didn’t. The cutting of the rope was the hardest physically, the knotting seemed to fly by, but my clothing rack only went so high and I needed to properly trim it, which means I needed to find a place to hang it, which means I needed someone to help install the hardware and also needed to find someone to help me carry it to and from and to and from as this was only here for about 36 hours. So many phone calls, a lot of coordination, a renting of a ladder, calling on my professional photographer friend to document the moment, it all came together and I’m feeling so much gratitude for everyone who helped me with this. It took a village to do this and I honestly can’t believe how I seemed to be met with joy when I asked for help. Friends are the best! 4 and a half of 7 feet. Making progress and hoping to be done tomorrow. I worked on the knotting for about 3 hours yesterday and 1.5 hours today. Time to get a few more hours in. but I am just not creative. // I hear this often. In fact, I just heard it yesterday. Anytime someone sees me working on my craft, or I share my work with them then I often hear, "I want to learn that, but I am just not creative. I wish I could do that, but I am just not creative. I tried that once, but I couldn't get it, I am just not creative." I recently heard a talk by Jim Kwik that really stuck with me. He says, and I am paraphrasing and added creativity in there, although he does talk about creativity at some points. "Your brain is like a supercomputer and your Self talk is a program it will run, so if you tell yourself that you are not creative, than you will not be creative because you programmed your supercomputer not to be creative." Woah, isn't that true? We fulfill our own prophecies. He then adds "Creativity is not something you have, creativity is something that you do. When we understand this than we are able to take control, put it into process and create a strategy." I often tell people, work on your craft/passion every single day, even for just 15 minutes, I think we can all find 15 minutes and all of this will add up, it would be 90 hours in a year. 90 HOURS a year at just 15 minutes a day! If you want to learn something, tell yourself that you can and then take control, put it into process and create a strategy. Day, by day, by day, it all adds up. I can assure you of this, one day I started to Macrame, I told myself that I wanted to be a creative. I dreamed about it and then I put it all into action.
