A very long and hard day for everyone, many scares, and a lot of advocating. Most of today willows oxygen levels were in the low 80s and included some extremely low drops that were very scary despite being on 100% oxygen through the vent. She was just not sedated enough to tolerate the vent or any respiratory treatments to help clear her lungs. After lots of advocating from her nurse,RT, and me we have her on a modified sedation plan that has avowed her to relax and rest comfortably with out fighting the vent and be able to tolerate her respiratory treatments. Her RT put in a lot of work to clear so much junk from her lungs so she could better move air though her lungs. We are working hard and taking everything a moment at a time. Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers an we continue on this road to willows recovery. Kochani Od poniedziałku jesteśmy w domu W szpitalu byłyśmy od środy z powodu zapalenia płuc. Zuzia czuje się już dużo, dużo lepiej Kontynuujemy antybiotyk w domu. ER SCRIBE What do I actually do? _____________________ I do MOST of the charting the moment the provider and I walk into a room. I am there pretty much so that: 1️⃣the provider is fully listening to the patient and their concerns, rather than keeping up on the computer typing it all out so they don’t forget 2️⃣the provider has less charting to do when they get home 3️⃣the provider is able to work quicker and get the patient the most efficient care . . When charting, I log the chief complaints the patient is here for, symptoms they report, their physical exam (even things that the provider may not notice, for example: I noticed a patient had some cut marks on their arms that later played a role in the underlying issue) we are not only working WITH the provider, but being that extra pair of eyes to catch things! The provider will give us reports on the patient when they reevaluate the patient or whether they run more tests, etc— which we have to chart. . . Working as a scribe is probably the BEST job I have ever had. It not only gave me the clearest view of what an ER doctor does on the daily, but had to learn over 1000 medical terms for work that otherwise I would have never known prior to medical school. One of the doctors even sat me aside and taught me how to read an ECG! I’ve shadowed through a hospital before and i did not learn NEARLY as much as I did while scribing. . . SHADOWING VS. SCRIBING: Not only does one get paid and the other does not, BUT the main difference between scribing and shadowing is that there is more on the line, so we are more attentive to the little details— we have to know why the doctors made certain decisions for their patients vs other decisions, because we are responsible for documenting it all into their chart and make sure they get proper reimbursement for their work done. . . Shadowing is more like following a doctor, observing, and trying to take in as much information as you can. Although you may be able to see more of a variety in a shorter amount of time, scribing forces you to be an active listener and makes you more involved in the physician to patient interaction.
