Let me just express a couple things. This film will be controversial among many Batman fans. Because the root of the problem is joker shouldn’t and doesn’t exactly exist without Batman, there is no point in the Joker without Batman. That being said, this film will not be in any way comics accurate but I’m okay with that. Jack Nicholson is my favorite live action Joker because he embodied the character more than any other actor, however, jack started as a bad guy, and fell into the chemical bath, and for the sake of the story, he needed to turn into the Joker. This film and incarnation of the character feels like it’s diving into what IS the joker? The Joker is flamboyant, a showman, an intellectual, an engineer, a comedian, and at his core, a reflection of the true madness that dwells inside Gotham. Constantly trying to change and re shape the statuesque in society so he fits in a little more. He doesn’t want to be part of your world but make the world a part of his. Todd, Joaquin and company in this trailer alone show more of the core characteristics and mythology of what makes the Joker the Joker. All it takes it one bad day. That’s the whole point to his character no matter the origin story being told. The sanest person can only take so much and when being beaten down enough, they snap. The Joaquin Phoenix Joker is not a comics accurate Joker, but a Joker that is true to the almost 80 year long mythology and characteristics of the character across all forms of media. That’s why I have interest in this movie. He isn’t a mob boss, he isn’t a chaos thriller, he doesn’t shop at hot topic, he is that true reflection of the Joker, much like Bruce had something traumatic happen to him to cause him to go in the direction of Batman, Joker had something traumatic happen to him that caused him to spin the opposite direction to become the Joker. I have not seen any other director in live action take the Joker so seriously for a character study, and give him this amount of respect. Todd Phillips gets the character and the influence his mythology has on pop culture. This is why I support this bold direction and am curious. What do you think? #Joker #joaquinphoenix
