These gauntlets were fabricated by the famous armourer Lorenz Helmschmid of Augsburg, around the 1480ies. They are part of an armour presumably ordered by the archduke and later emperor of the Holy Roman Empire Maximilian I, who died 500 years ago. Incorporated in their design are late-gothic elements. The gauntlets appear elongated and are adorned with gilded brass lilies. The #Freiburg #Minster stands in the midst of the #Münsterplatz surrounded by the Vinothek Alte Wache, the Historical merchants‘ hall (Historisches Kaufhaus), picturesque cafes and the Museum of Urban History in #Wentzingerhaus. The construction of the minster lasted over 300 years - most builders never got to see the end result. Fortunately, it survived both World Wars and is now a cultural monument showing medieval art. In addition, the 116 meter high west tower was once called "the most beautiful tower on earth".
