I am blessed beyond measure to be your mom sweet boy. . I’m actually more excited for Mother’s Day that I thought I’d be. Never really cared too much about birthdays or being the center of attention, so I didn’t think this would be a big deal. Maybe it’s the pride I feel in being a mom, birthing and taking care of my son, and watching him grow every day. . This is my first Mother’s Day and I’m feeling a lot more than I expected. Honor, pride, overwhelming love, and most of all grateful to have been given this gift of motherhood ♥️

You spent 30 minutes waiting. You answered questions A, B or C. You undressed waist down. You sat on the exam bed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ The provider rated your responses. The provider checked your vitals. The provider pressed your abdomen. The provider did the internal exam. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You’ve been cleared. You’ve passed the 6 week postpartum test. You’ve been told you can resume back to your normal life. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In 30 minutes it has been declared that you’re back to normal. But what is normal in the midst of continued round the clock care? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The exhaustion. The hormones. The nipple pain. The anxiety. The fear. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The simple fact that what you know as normal is as far away as you can imagine. The simple fact that your normal life is no longer. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Postpartum is not over just because you’ve hit the 6 week point and have been cleared. Mama, you are not wrong for feeling the continued waves of exhaustion, anxieties, fears and madness. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You are not a bad mother because you feel one or all of the emotions. You are not weak because you are feeling the emotions. Crying the emotions. Yelling the emotions. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You are strong. You are capable. It's not easy to miss any of these, especially when they are for our kids. But sometimes it's necessary. We need to put our recovery first so the things we love won't always have to come last. We need to bow out and take a break to take care of ourselves now so we can be fully present later. If we don't, we show up as half of ourselves anyway.
