Hello again everyone! It’s been a wonderful, relaxing, extremely productive day off over here at Marc’s movie vault, and I can’t wait to show off the new setup. Since it’s not quite finished, here’s a sexy snapshot of a couple of my newest Disney collection variants. These “limited release” versions of these two previous classics are Disney movie club exclusives that came out pretty recently. I’m not a member, as I’ve got too many Disney releases as it is to make it worthwhile, but I can usually find any DMC exclusives on eBay for a reasonable price immediately after their release. Non-spoiler review for Pet Sematary! ⚰️ . First things first, if this was a standalone movie and not based on a book, I probably would have really loved it! Unfortunately it isn’t. I’ve tried to detach myself from the book as much as I can, but I simply can’t be unbiased. This book means too much to me. (And yes, no movie will ever take away from the book etc, but this review is purely on my enjoyment level and I can only be honest!) . I’ll mention what I liked first - I thought the slight modifications made to the Zelda storyline were great!! I also really enjoyed Amy Seimetz’s portrayal of Rachel. I also thought the opening shot was really effective and generally enjoyed the little King Easter eggs that were dispersed throughout. AND I was really on board with the major change - if this was just an exact remake of the original then what would be the point? ‍♀️ so I really did like not knowing what was coming. . My main issue was the general lack of character development and background-building. Jud is one of my favourite King characters and he felt vastly under-utilised here. (Why the fuck didn’t we get the full Timmy Baterman story?!) Newspaper clippings are all well and good, but I’d rather Jud had told the stories. Everything just moved very fast I felt - there really wasn’t much opportunity to see the friendship between Louis and Jud (again, one of my fave parts of the book). . Yes, this is a horror movie and they’re going to focus on the horror aspects of the story, that’s fine. But I love this book so much due to its exploration of loss and death and grief. And maybe you can’t easily transfer those epic King passages to the screen, maybe I’m being harsh, but I personally didn’t feel the despair or loss. The funeral was over in a split second, there wasn’t enough real grief depicted for me. . As for the ending, I’ve come around to really liking it! Initially I felt rage (I don’t exactly know why ) but after musing on it, it’s different and quite creepy, so I’m a fan! . This review is probably all over the place, as are my feelings on this movie in general. In conclusion it’s a fresh take on the story, but I personally prefer the original ‍♀️
