My reaction when someone says you can only eat the foods you like at the weekends

NEWS FLASH: DOCTORS AREN’T EDUCATED IN NUTRITION! ‍♀️ . I have had conversations with several clients/potential clients recently where bad advice was given from their GPs regarding nutrition and dieting. This not only causes a lot of confusion because it’s coming from a “trusted” source but can also be downright dangerous by causing disordered eating, negative metabolic adaptions and potential nutrient deficiencies. Here’s a couple of the issues I have seen just RECENTLY: . 1️⃣Recommending that going on a VLCD (very low calorie diet) and using optifast shakes was the best way to lose weight. . 2️⃣Recommending intermittent fasting to someone who was experiencing metabolic slowdown from long term dieting. . 3️⃣Recommending following a strict clean diet and cutting out all processed foods. . 4️⃣Recommending the elimination of all sugars, including fruits. . I also had a client who recently went to see a naturopath who diagnosed her with gluten and lactose intolerance and candida overgrowth by getting her to hold a brass device in her hand ‍♀️ She was then instructed to follow a candida cleanse diet for 2 months that was EXTREMELY restrictive. There is absolutely no evidence to support the effectiveness of this method of testing OR the diet itself. . Please don’t blindly follow recommendations from your GP regarding your nutrition. Question things. Do your own research. . And if you do need help with your nutrition make sure you are seeing an EXPERT in nutrition. If your car was broken you wouldn’t take it to your accountant to get fixed so don’t do the same with your diet!
