One of the restaurants we went to in Beijing served drinks in this cup. I had to have it. I wanted some kind of liquid or reference to it. Settled on what I call the Mr. Penn black and white approach, where the light part of the subject is against the dark part of the background and the dark part of the subject is against the light part of the background. Took me awhile to dial in the splash thing where it complimented the cup without overwhelming it. Some tech talk: I shot this with a 24mm lens in front of Hasselblad back, on a special camera I had made to use that lens, I love the distortion - but it’s about 6 inches away from the cup, so there was some architecture involved to keep it safe. Was an experiment to see if I could do a picture like this with that camera, a patient experience as it’s one shot, sort of clean up, try not to track stuff all over the studio, line it all up, make an adjustment and try it again.

Handheld, in a gimbal or a cage... this camera is just amazing, and with this @kamlanlens 50mm 1.1 mark ii is just a beast!!! Sharp, sharp, sharp! Keep tuned because this lens is not available yet.
