Are you familiar with @onceuponabookclubbox? They recently gifted me a box and I think this has to be one of the most well thought out monthly subscription boxes I’ve seen! They send you the signature pink box that includes a book to read along with wrapped gifts. As you read through the book you open each gift when you get to the page number indicated. The gifts each have a page number and there are also reminders inside the book so that you know just when to open them! I love the Pride & Prejudice vibes in this box and the gifts were just perfect for the story. Also *hint hint* I think their June box will have a Pride & Prejudice theme with a twist! Do you subscribe to any monthly boxes that I need to know about?

Do you write messages in the books you give as gifts? I love finding old inscriptions and it makes me want to go through and write something in all of my children’s books so they can look back on them someday. There is something so nostalgically comforting about finding a message written by a kindred spirit from another century. I put a peak of the inscriptions from some of the these books in my stories, if you are so inclined to look. The oldest one dates back to 1898. What’s the oldest inscription you’ve come across in a book? Have you seen any particularly interesting ones?

unpopular book opinion: breakfast at tiffany’s wasn’t that great. or really good at all, actually - so many of you guys said it was your favorite novella when i asked a few posts back, so i had quite high expectations. my biggest issue with the book was that it was racist and hugely stereotypical of the lgbtq+ community, specifically lesbians - although the narrator is generally perceived as gay. one could argue that it was a product of it’s time, but c’mon, there are so many better and non-racist stories out there that you could dedicate your time to before this one. • besides the racism and arguable homophobia, the story itself seemed a bit flat. none of the characters other than holly really had much depth, even our protagonist - he felt quite wishy washy to me. holly golightly herself is an entirely different issue - she annoyed me to no end and i don’t see how anyone could be charmed by her. she came off as the original manic pixie dream girl - a stock character who, it’s important to note, exists in the narrative almost solely to “inspire a greater appreciation for life in a male protagonist,” in the words of film critic nathan rabin. • the story itself never drew me in, either - so on the whole, i was pretty disappointed. for those of you who’ve read breakfast at tiffany’s what are your thoughts? especially if you did like it - i’d love to hear why!

Especially after what it did in Finale and if you haven’t read it yet, you’re in for a treat because this book was as fabulous as you’re hoping it will be! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I still haven’t picked up my next read. Still a bit hungover from Finale so I’ll try and pick something else either later or tomorrow. Probably tomorrow. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For now I’m at that stage where I’m hungry but no matter what’s in the fridge or the cupboards, there’s still NO FOOD. So I’m kind of moping about it but what can you do? ☓
