¡¡Medal Monday!! Mi primer 21k del año ‍♀️ . Me puse mis audífonos, puse mi playlist para bootcamp y pooom . De la nada todas mis preocupaciones pasaron a segundo plano (que no había ido al baño antes [si eres corredor seguro entiendes la gravedad de esto jajaja], que no me sentía suficientemente preparada, que tenía presiostitis), y sólo disfrute de mi carrera. Todo el tiempo me fui diciendo a mi misma las frases que siempre le digo a mis alumnos “fuerza mental, cuando el cuerpo empieza a fallar o decir que no, que la mente diga sí”. Cada vez que pasaba y veía a mi novio en los diferentes puntos de la ruta echándome porras, era un boost para seguir y meterle más duro. Y así logre terminar mi medio, feliz, entera y con ganas de más. . Lección: aceptar tu momento, tu condición y hacer lo mejor que puedas con ello. Para mi resulta difícil porque soy alguien muy competitiva y perfeccionista entonces sí no lo puedo hacer al 100% muchas veces prefiero ni hacerlo. Pero aceptar tu momento sin duda ayuda a que disfrutes, aceptes y fluyas. "For years, I would think about my high school and college days of running track and smile. I was beyond confident and in the best shape. This “on top of the world” feeling slowly disappeared somewhere along the way. • When my son was diagnosed with Autism at age 3 and I let myself be dragged under waves of self-pity and guilt. After countless sleeves of Oreos and 68 pounds, I looked in the mirror and cried. I said, “Who am I?” I realized I needed help. In 2015, I was the PTA President of my school district. Our Superintendent was creating a family fitness initiative and asked if I would spearhead it. • He wanted me to visit an alumnus who had just opened up a Boot Camp facility in the area. Before long, I was doing five Boot Camps a week. The weight started to melt away. My trainer introduced me to food prepping and for the first time in forever, I felt control over food. One of my gym team members put together a team that was running a “Spartan race”. I thought, ok, I am in. • My first race was in June 2016 at Tuxedo. It took me 5 hours to run that race. When I jumped fire, I realized that I had just left the old me behind those logs and flames. Old Karen was gone and the brand new Karen was sprinting towards the finish line. I jumped fire twice more to complete a Trifecta that year. At 50 years old, I was doing things I never thought I would be doing at any age. My confidence was back and had literally lit a flame in me that was burning out of control. • I have just completed my third Spartan season. Now down 73 pounds and 10 sizes I find myself with an outlook on life ad energy that is unlike anything I have ever known. My son and daughter now know to NEVER give up despite any obstacle placed in their paths. They know that you should never accept average and love every step of your journey. As I was getting ready for work this morning I was thinking about how I would describe my transformation and how I feel. I thought back to me crying in the mirror four years ago.
