This is a little diddy I like to call “ISN’T IT INTERESTING?” . In my earlier post about “stress eating” a friend commented that she normally loses her appetite during periods of stress. While this is totally normal I thought “isn’t it interesting that I’ve never had a single client express concern about skipping a meal due to stress or busyness?” . Undernourishing whether intentionally through dieting or restriction or unintentionally due to stress or busyness is at worst detrimental to your health and at best nothing to write home about (or should I say talk to your dietitian about). But EATING while stressed? SOUND THE ALARMS WE HAVE AN ISSUE!!! . So... isn’t this interesting? Interesting and not surprising. In a culture that glorifies thinness it makes perfect sense that this would be our perception. So let’s call it what it is - perception. . What a journey ~ ✨.⁣ ⁣ Everything I used to eat had the words light/fat-free/skinny/zero/reduced/lean...because that’s what I wanted to BE.⁣ ⁣ Everyday I was on a mission to eat less, willpower my way through hunger and “be good”.⁣ ⁣ I thought that’s just what you have to do in order to lose weight, be accepted, love yourself & therefor love your life. (*its not)⁣ ⁣ But where this actually got me was obsessed with food, always hungry, the heaviest I had ever been, miserable, and either restricting or binging — never in between.⁣ ⁣ What I love about making the switch to REAL FOOD, is that it’s simple. It’s not about how to willpower through hunger with tips & tricks like skinny lattes, sugar-free gum or Diet Coke. It’s not about counting or tracking and being obsessed with the numbers and what the numbers mean and what we mean when we go above or below. It’s not about chemicals and artificial sweeteners made in lab that truly WRECK our guts (hi ‍♀️) immune systems, brain, and overall health.⁣ ⁣ Focusing on real food was such an important step for me towards making peace with food. And that’s why I preach this to my clients & community.⁣ ⁣ Because learning about food, actually eating something real with nutrients not just less calories/points/macros, and letting myself feel nourished, full and fed was POWERFUL.⁣ ⁣ It changed everything. And I think it’s incredible place to start if you can relate to the list on the left. Instead of jumping into a new plan or protocol or program or fad, what if you just woke up everyday with the goal to eat as close to real food as possible? Some protein, some fat, some carbs...what you like...what feels good. And TRY. See what gives you energy and what doesn’t. See what helps your digestion and what doesn’t. See what keeps you full and what doesn’t. YOU get to make the plan. ⁣ ⁣ Real food gives you loose structure. It’s not about being good or bad, it’s about taking care of yourself because you deserve that. It’s learning how to do this on your own, forever, not just a quick-fix. ⁣ ⁣ What do you think?
