Today is my due date. ≪ Throughout my entire pregnancy I wasn’t planning to share the exact date with anyone because I didn’t want 500 people hounding me on one day like, “IS SHE HERE YET!?!?!” But I realized other than the annoyance of dealing with people’s expectations, I was scared myself of acknowledging it. I didn’t want to put expectations on myself to have her by a certain day, but ultimately that’s exactly what I did. ≪ I’ve been speaking excuses to myself like “my body is too tiny I can’t possibly go past my due date” or “if I goes past my due date I can’t have a home birth” or “if I don’t have her by June 6th there will be complications” and a million other thoughts that ultimately are based in fear. ≪ But I think we all do that more often than not. Let fear take control + believe in every single lie he tries to whisper in our hearts. Fear is pesky that way. ≪ So I wanted to share something with you God has been teaching me this week - today in particular. If you’re in a season of waiting, anxious or fearful of the unknown.... give those fears completely to Jesus. Tell Him to cast them out; they have no place in your heart. Rest in His truths. That He has your story planned. That He does not let His children down. That He is right here, beside you, whispering to your heart... “I got you.” ≪ And He does. He really does. Even if this baby doesn’t come in my timing.... it will be okay. Because God’s plan is greater than my own. Over the past few weeks Andrew and I have been praying over ourselves, “God, not our will, but yours.” I’ve found that so helpful to pray instead of praying, “God please make labor start now.” ≪ I don’t know what you are waiting for. Maybe it’s a baby like me. Maybe it’s a season of change. A new job. An opportunity that seems to be taking forever. Whatever it is, give it to the Father. Cast your worries on Him. Hello Third Trimester! It’s a major milestone many moms celebrate—the last leg of a 9+ month stretch. And while it’s exciting to reach 28 weeks, six weeks longer than my previous pregnancy, I don’t find my jumping for joy like most people would expect. ..... Pregnancy is measured differently after experiencing premature birth, a traumatic delivery or the loss of a child.  I remember so many people telling me that I’ll feel differently after I get past the 22 week mark, when I delivered my triplets. But here’s the thing—after going through so much trauma and heartache, this pregnancy is still filled with uncertainty and anxiety. ..... Instead of celebrating each week or trimester, I find myself measuring this pregnancy in viability and chance of survival. It’s something preemie parents can relate to. My triplets were given a less than 10% chance of survival at 22 weeks gestation. But now at 28 weeks, this baby has a 80-90% chance. My husband and I tell people we’ll feel better when we reach 30-32 weeks. That’s because we know a NICU stay would be measured in weeks, not several months like before. ..... That’s the reality for many of us. We’re jaded and filled with jitters the majority of our pregnancy. And while each week I find a little more hope and happiness, I know that this journey of pregnancy after loss and premature birth is far from over. For many of us, we spend this final trimester counting kicks and wondering about every ache and pain. We have our doctors on speed dial, keeping their cell phone numbers handy 24 hours a day. And we know that while we may seem overprotective, even irrational, these feelings are completely normal. Even after I hold a healthy baby in my arms, there will still be moments of fear and worry knowing that we have experienced a parent’s worst nightmare before. ..... For now, we hold onto hope. Hope that all will be OK as our baby girl continues to grow. Hope that the weeks will pass by uneventfully.
