You though we were going to head into the weekend without a post about Luc Monnet's workshop at @arts.mecaniques ? No way! Here's a super cool tool that was custom made for his work. So you complain that you can't or simply don't want to fork out a couple of grand for a vintage and complete Pivofix? Take this as an example: Luc took an already excellent Steiner jacot tool and modified it. If you peruse through @arts.mecaniques Facebook page you can see more pix of the manufacture process. Luc with his partner @cyril_brivet_naudot are upfront about sharing their knowledge and even have an open source project to share all blueprints and methods for making watches - super!! Just go to the website and take a look! (More about this in next post ;) but here you see how the Steiner jacot tool was modified and a grinding wheel added. The large knob at the bottom left (first pic) and bottom right (top view) is the height adjuster, and that little plastic arm in the last picture is an felt pad charged with oil to facilitate reducing the pivots to size. Ahh yes, also the supports (and jacot tool itself) were modified so that the grinding disc could come down onto the pivot. Super super nice!!! How about this exquisite Lorch Junior to start a very very special mini series of images exploring the super cool watchmaking and prototype studio of Luc Monnet of @arts.mecaniques. This beautiful Lorch Junior has a 50mm center height with 8mm collets. As those who own one of these beaus know, it's a superb lathe for turning extra fine work. Here, in Luc's workshop it is used for very fine pivot turning by hand. Don't let the image fool you, this lathe is super small, with your hand being as big as 3/4 of the lathe. (Ah! And don't mind that Aciera in the background, we'll come back to it ;) This super cool piece of equipment is the first, as I mention, in a series of really special machines I'll be sharing over the next week. They all form part of the workshop of @arts.mecaniques . As we'll see, their studio represents a really classic high-end workshop, with THE best machines of our trade!
