Morning, everyone! I’m visiting my parents for the weekend, and we popped out to do a little shopping yesterday. Of course I returned with an array of my favourites - flavoured coffee, beauty products, chocolate, and a bargain book! Was very happy to find this du Maurier biography for just a couple of pounds in the charity shop What are your plans for today? Mine involve reading, a good long walk, Sunday lunch and attempting to mentally prepare myself for tomorrow’s Game of Thrones episode - I’m not ready

Why do I love non-fiction so much ?. . . I used to be a strictly fiction reader just 2 years ago. But, my preference became neutral once I started reading non fiction ✨ Now, I read both equally. The above are some of my best reads so far in non fiction. I read non fiction books quite slowly. I don't believe in binge reading them. Because, every fact, every information and every philosophy dealt must be contemplated before moving on. . . Sometimes, I plan and read some books like one chapter a day. I break it down so that I can complete them instead of giving up easily. "Simply Fly" by Captain Gopinath was one of my early non fiction. It is about a small town boy who went on to build one of India's largest airlines "Deccan Airlines". His story struck me with awe. I realised that reality doesn't always suck so much. That people around me have so much to teach and inspire me. That real life stories are equal if not more than great. I simply can't get enough of biographies! ✨Then I read "Lean In" by Sheryl Sandberg. That book changed my perspective on how I see myself. That women can be ambitious, achieve their dreams and balance both professional and personal life. That is my Bible for work life . Similarly all the above books have taught me a lot, have trained me to see beyond the obvious and to know that, in whatever topic or area catching my interest, I can rely upon books for a wonderful introduction :-) . en este #mujeresporcarta he tenido la gran suerte y oportunidad de conocer a dos mujeres impresionantes: la primera es Emmy Lou Packard que fue una de las mejores amigas de Frida Kahlo. Emmy nació en California pero siempre estuvo muy unida a México y conocía de primera mano la situación social del país. Emmy empezó a trabajar en La Casa Azul como asistenta de Frida pero Diego, marido de Frida, que ya conocía las dotes artísticas de Emmy la animó a participar en la creación de un gran mural para el que mejoró su técnica  e hizo que comenzara su carrera como muralista. Murales que reivindicaban los problemas sociales de México. por su estrecha relación con el pueblo mexicano se proclamó activista y ayudó en diferentes manifestaciones a favor de mexico y latinoamérica. Continuó con su carrera como muralista y daba clases a jóvenes artistas latinos y luchaba por el empoderamiento de la mujer a través de la pintura. Emmy murió a la avanzada edad de ochenta y tres años y la crítica siempre la recuerda como la gran artista del realismo social.
