I had the most fun day yesterday! Will tell you all about it in two posts, starting with this one. I confirmed the Spanish walk que with Éowyn. As I am still figuring out my way in playful (trick)training with her, I changed my technique a few times along the road (I know, not really a desirable thing to do). First I taught her to lift her leg, mirroring my physical leg cue. When that was confirmed, I started to change that que to a tap on the shoulder. After that, I wanted her to lift her leg when I lift my stick (this eventually will be my hand/arm) and lowers it when I lower it. Quite similar to mirroring my leg, actually. I decided to do it this way, because the next step is walking next to her and asking it. I can’t tap her right shoulder when I am on her left, and vice versa - obviously. So in this process we found this to working best for us. Also, now I click after a few steps, or when I stop asking, she now knows that she must keep going until I click. I confused her in the past, when I -bad habit- clicked every step, but only rewarded her after a few clicks. I quickly stopped doing that because an *empty* click is a useless one. Now I use a bridge signal (“ja!”) to let her know she is doing great and a click is soon coming. We are doing great now! Now we slowly work towards being able to walk next to her, instead of in front (she is very insecure when I try that, so lots of transitioning to do), aaaand getting that left leg more active. Her right is VERY good, and her left is also coming along great, but we have loaaaads of time and play ahead to get that leg as active as the right leg. So much fun to play with her like this ♥️

C H A N G E S While we make plans, life sits in the corner and laughes at us. ‍♀️ This time it happenes or happened with a good and a only for me not so great side. As you all know, Dalbyn is a licensed breeding stallion and i don‘t own him, as some still believe. This means, some decisions aren‘t mine. Yesterday Dalbyn‘s owner spontaneously decided to let him mate earlier than planned. So Dalbyn is on a meadow now with 4 mares for the upcoming weeks. Great for him, but pretty stupid for me, because I can‘t do anything with him in this time. He doesn‘t know it to be seperated from his herd of mares and really gets crazy, if you try to lead him away. He has never learned this... ‍♀️ So the upcoming weeks just some cuddling on the meadow for a few minutes and probably some brushing from time to time. ———————————————————— pic by @snoopysdiary
