The thought of coming up with prices for these hand painted pieces is already stressing me out. Pricing has always been the most uncomfortable part of this whole process. Seriously how in the world does one decide on a price?! There was a time in my life where I thought $20 for a mug was steep. Now that I know first hand all that goes into making a mug (including all the hidden expenses and time aside from physically making the thing, like paying rent, feeding yourself, health insurance, self employment tax, hours and hours spent coming up with designs, photographing, listing, website maintenance, packaging, etc.) I now feel like many people are selling themselves short. I am happy to now spend what I would have never dreamed of spending on a mug 10 years ago. In order to be able to continue making the beautiful work we love, makers must be able to make a living. Yet when I consider my own pricing, why am I so uncomfortable choosing a number? I don't know if I'll ever be fully confident in the value I place on myself and my work. Just a little stream of consciousness today.
