Good morning all. Have you ever stopped at one of those houses that have little plants for sale on their driveway? Yesterday I was passing through my local village and decided to pick up a few little plants from a local. I’d never met her before but I had driven past several times. Always meaning to stop and support a hobby grower. The lady I met, who’s name is Sandra, started chatting, she was maybe a little guarded as she looked me up and down , a stranger on her manor. I admired and complimented her on the health of the plants she had for sale. She told me she just does it for fun after her husband had died 15 yrs ago. She invited me to take a look at her greenhouses. Well I wasn’t quite prepared to walk into what I can only describe as a wonderland. An oasis of love , colour and devotion. An equivalent of a prize winning flower show. ‘These aren’t for sale’ she informs me. I cast my eye on the most exquisite plant that she said had taken 6 months to propagate, and be another 18 months before she will consider to sell. I was just in heaven listening to her stories and languishing in her utopia . She picked up the plant and gave it to me. ‘Well, I’m giving you it aren’t I, you haven’t bought it!’ I was gobsmacked! Privileged? Humbled? I don’t even know what the word is to be honest. All I know is that I lost an hour and a half immersed in her world. I will be back with a bottle of whisky and a bunch of flowers, (her favourite things!) what an amazing woman! It’s a different world to meet a gardener. There’s another level of kindness, love & compassion that seems to emanate from fellow gardeners. Only another could truly understand what devotion goes into nurturing of plants. DAY 19 - LOOK UP. Good morning all. Yesterday was a mountain day! My daughter has come for her holidays so we went to Snowdonia for the day. Everything about the mountains blows me away. How tiny we are , the scale , vastness and majesty of these enormous glacial rocks. No phone signal, just being at one and breathing it all in. Until I got home I hadn’t realised that I had hit over 3k followers. I mean wow! It partly saddens me though because i want to be able to converse with you all!The reality is I simply wouldn’t have enough time in the day! I don’t want you to feel tiny like I did in the mountains, I want to acknowledge your existence, you matter. I want to thank you so much for taking time out of your day to come and visit me, even if you don’t comment, thank you for the love. I try and reply to everyone, and cannot show my gratitude enough. This pic is my pergola spot, where I relax at the end of the day watching the sunset. The other 2 pics are my other patio areas with my collection of pots which are layered on the flower carts for added height. Pots can be time consuming though, they need regular watering even if it rains. I feed these weekly too to ensure healthy plants and long lasting blooms. Have a fabulous day, all 3 thousand of you! Good morning all. Hope you all had a lovely weekend and saw some sunshine. I’m really not organised this morning for DAY -17 STORAGE and my agapanthus bulbs are my tenuous link for today coupled with the bird table. Why? you may ask, Well firstly I was going to give a biology blurb on food storage in plants but it’s Monday and it’s probably not what you want to read about right now! Secondly , the bird table, we must spend more money on bird food than on our own food main cost is on nuts for the red squirrels. They cost a fortune! All the feeders get emptied everyday by the wildlife here, they form dinner queues so imagine then walking around in my garden, pulling weeds and all sorts, I see a sapling. Hmm don’t remember planting that? Unsure of whether it’s a plant I’ve forgotten about last year that had maybe come to life...I pull it up only to find a conker at the root! It seems that the squirrels take great delight in storing the conkers in my beds ! Horse chestnut saplings everywhere So if these little monkeys are true to form, I should expect a field of nut trees soon shouldn’t I ?!! Will save us a fortune ! Good morning all. Thank you all for the messages, shares and love for my post yesterday you’re all so wonderful. Here we are mid June, sodden and sun seeking, so let’s be the sunshine Bubbles, strawberries, peonies in my happy place on the jetty last weekend. DAY 15- EDIBLE The homegrown strawberries are still green, the sweet peas are not yet in flower, and the tomato plants are painfully slow this year. Have you noticed any differences in some of your plants this year? I’m having a chilled day today, a walk on the beach and potter in the garden later, but first coffee.
