I understand that extinction is one of those Big, Gigantic, Terrifying issues that feels too overwhelming to tackle. It makes you want to stick your head in the sand... but ask any ostrich you know, you still get your ass bitten by the lion with your head in the sand. Unless of course the lions are extinct (sigh). So let’s break it down. Here are some ways you can help: 1. Only buy sustainable timber and paper products. Research any company you buy from. Don't buy palm oil. Research the products you buy. 2. Donate to organisations that help with conservation. In this example, @rhinosirf , @wildaid or @wwf @wwf_id . 3. Write to President Widodo in Indonesia and tell them that you care about their Rhinos. Get your kids school to write letters. Indonesia are currently on track to lose a third of its rainforests to logging and palm oil plantations by 2020! Address as follows: “H. E. You probably know by now that palm oil is bad, right? The farming of palm oil causes deforestation and leads to the destruction of wildlife habitats, especially the poor orangutans. But do you know how many food products, beauty products and even fuels contain palm oil?!!! Trying to buy palm oil free is really difficult because palm oil doesn’t have to be expressly labelled on our products. A few weeks ago we helped out an @orangutanfoundationintl fundraising event where over $40,000 was raised to help buy land to prevent deforestation and resettle orangutans who have sadly already lost their homes and families - yay! We picked up with helpful card for my wallet, and suggest you save it or screen shot it for when you do your grocery shopping. We also love shopping at @biomestores because they are proudly palm oil free so it takes out all the guess work. This is not sponsored, we just genuinely love this store.
