Just finished a pair of jeans for a customer from Etsy. This pair is for Iplehouse JID doll. I sold my both JID girls last year, so I used a Raccoondoll as they have the same measurements as JIDs. How to sew doll jeans beautifully? My BJD jeans are one of the best products among similar doll garments. I think it's the time to pass on some of my sewing hacks. There'll be several posts on doll jeans. This on is about some basic things that are important to achieve a perfect pair of doll jeans. Next post will be about pockets, belt loops, jeans waist and fitting the jeans to the doll. Here're the notes for the each picture. Swipe to see all the pictures Use shirting denim or chambray - thin cotton fabric. Don't use denim fabric for human jeans. I use three contrast fabrics for my doll jeans. The main fabric (shirting denim or chambray) for the jeans, thin cotton fabric with tiny print (micro-stripes, checked fabric or floral pattern) for the waist inner part and thin polyester lining fabric for the pockets. Cotton fabric with print should be slightly thinner than the main fabric for the jeans. Japanese quilting cotton is the best for this. American quilting cotton is thicker but it can be used too. Polyester lining fabric should be very thin, semi-transparent. Always prewash your thin denim fabric in hot water before sewing. Prewash cotton fabric with pattern too. Polyester lining fabric doesn't need prewashing. Iron all your fabrics before the cutting. Don't fold your fabric to cut two identical details at once. Doll clothes need more precise cutting than human clothes.Trace each piece of your pattern individually. Doll jeans have a lot of topstitching. You need to sew super-slowly to make all the topstitching perfect. Crooked decorative stitches look lousy. Avoid any rashing.
