I found out I’m a Type 2 on the Enneagram. They describe Type 2 as “The Helper.” For weeks, I dismissed it. It didn’t seem like me. I felt like more of a Type 4, “The Individualist.” It wasn’t until further research (ahem, podcasts, twitter accounts, etc.) that I came to terms with it. Here’s what I’ve learned about myself. :: I love to help people, but have trouble asking others for help. We also love to be needed. There’s a joke that goes, ask a Type 2, “How can I love you better?” and it will take them three months to get back to you with an answer. I often feel like the love others give me is based on what I can give them first. And in the context of GRACE and JESUS, we fall into the trap of: “If I do enough good deeds, God will bless me & love me more.” Which is untrue, yet this is somehow where our “motives” come into play. :: During one of these podcasts, the host said something that has stuck with me. She said, “It’s important for you to have friends that don’t NEED you. Because as a Type 2, so many people only talk to you because they know you will give & give & give because it’s who you are. You love to be needed. But to have friends who simply WANT to be around you… it changes everything.” This week, it has really become evident who those people are in my life. ✨ :: Anyway!
