May means that #thevintagefashionchallenge is back! While I won’t be able to participate daily, I’m hoping to do a weekly post from the prompts. I so enjoyed connecting with and discovering so many wonderful people last year that I couldn’t help but join in some of the fun. This week’s prompt is “introductions” and today specifically is #throwbackthursday. This photo means a lot to me for many reasons. It was taken by my loving (and patient) husband at Disneyland last summer. I’m wearing one of my favorite outfits, sewn by me from a mish-mash of 3 (4?) different vintage patterns. It was a fantastic day and very special memory. My name is Lindsay and I sort of fell into vintage fashion about 14 or so years ago. My fine and frizzy hair didn’t take heat styling well, so I resorted to experimenting with pin curls. My body type didn’t look good in available modern styles, so I resorted to seeking out more flattering silhouettes. I don’t stick to one era though 1940s beach wear is probably my ultimate favorite. I believe fashion is about what makes you feel good in your own skin. Dress for yourself and enjoy your clothing! I don’t take it too seriously, by no means do I have a closet with only vintage. I wear reproductions and modern clothes too, especially in the summer when it’s 115 degrees in the desert! I also spend a lot of time knitting and sewing from vintage patterns. Not only is it a great way to make custom options for yourself and others, but it’s incredible therapy for me. Crafting can be an immense mental break and one that I need often! #craftinganxietyaway Also want to add that I love vintage fashion, not vintage values. It’s merely the aesthetic that draws me to older time periods, not the beliefs. And a big thanks to @makethislook @iliveinmylab and @tinyangrycrafts for putting this on again.
