It’s officially festival/summer marketplace season, which as a creative entrepreneur means tons of vending opportunities. As a vendor in an event, the marketing of said event falls predominately on the event coordinator; however, to ensure that you stand out amongst other vendors prior to the actual day, you’ll definitely want to run an IG or FB Ad (not a promoted post or boost) about 3-4 weeks up till the day of the event. This ad should not only be targeted to those who fit your target audience, but are also within a 5-15 mile radius of the event location. Additionally, there should be mentioning within the ad that you’ll be vending at said event.
Doing this will allow you to create a greater sense of anticipation for new (and old) customers who are attending the event or potentially considering it. This is especially helpful when doing large festival events where the options (as a consumer) when it comes to shopping are quite endless.
Also, to add to this, it’s suggested that some of the items that you offer at the event are things that you can’t purchase on your website (or at least aren’t available online till after the event). Nowadays, online shopping is the preferred method for most people, so there needs to be more of a pull than just having to not deal with shipping to reel people in. By offering something that you can only get at that event, it will help make coming to that event worthwhile (especially in respect to old customers).

Creating new traditions and building community through art, SAMASAMA kicks-off this Wednesday, May 1, in honor of AAPI Heritage Month featuring over 50 local and international artists. Co-curated by @snakalack and @lestalusan, this year’s show includes painting, sculpture, photography, calligraphy, dance performance, and more at @shopkeepersdc. SAMASAMA is 100% volunteer run for artists by artists, so please come support and partake in our diverse program. Opening Reception is this Wednesday @shopkeepersdc, from 6-9pm, $5-20 suggested donation (no one will be turned away). Food and beverages by @maketto1351, @stilllifewithcake and @aiyadc, live screen printing by @soulandinkcrew, @kichekogoods pop-up shop, and live painting by @misschelove and @mariamillerart, featuring @lestalusan playing an all-vinyl curated set of music by Asian/Asian American and Pacific Islander artists. 15% of artist sales will benefit @aalead, a non-profit that supports low-income and underserved Asian Pacific American youth.

In my last class the gold paint was especially popular. There’s something so delicious and subversive about shimmering elements on fine art. So, in the spirit of that, I decided to go to a craft store a few nights ago to peruse the sparkly aisles. ✨ I don’t want to be responsible for covering @shopmadeindc with glitter, but I do want to offer more shine and a more tactile experience so I decided on shiny metallic foil. Being able to touch a part of the art completely changes the experience of creating (at least for me it does, do you experience that as well?), and with this kind I think the application goes more smoothly with the handle of a palette knife so it fits the theme perfectly. Clearly, we’re going to have a lot of fun tonight! ✨
