I have a client who has a TON of curly hair. She comes in once a week for her blowout that will last her until her next appointment the following week. . I’ve been doing her hair for 5 years and it consistently took me 1 hour from wash to finish to blow dry her hair. . The other night at dinner my 16 year old step-daughter was telling us how she wishes that she was just already doing what she wants to do in life and that she was frustrated that she wasn’t there yet. . I told her something that I feel like SO many of us (including myself) forgets. . “Your beginning is not supposed to look like someone else’s middle or end.” . How often do you look at someone else’s life through those little squares on Instagram and think “wow I wish I was as put together as this person, I wish I was doing what this person is doing, why am I not where this person is yet” etc. etc.? . Chances are, you’re hopping into someone’s story YEARS after it’s started AND you’re only seeing the cute, happy little glimpses of it that they choose to share with you. . Sometimes I can’t decide if this is better or worse. Like, if you knew EVERY little exhaustingly difficult detail it takes to get to the good parts, would it make you feel too afraid to even start? . I think the mystery of it can serve you well sometimes. The part that ISN’T good is the part where seeing someone’s middle or end makes you feel inadequate instead of feeling inspired. . I’ve been SO guilty of this over the years, but after a lot of work on myself and (mostly) tackling those feelings of jealousy and inadequacy, realizing that everyone’s story and journey is going to look completely different, and that gratitude for what you already have will get you a lot further than lamenting over what’s not even yours ever will, I can now freely browse through instagram without having a quarter life crisis every single time . . Over the last two years or so @_luisagaxiola_ has made it a priority to invest in our space (and I may or may not have had some influence in design ). . We recently got custom cabinetry for our mixing/storage area made by @ckwoodwork and it’s AMAZING. . He measured all of our bottles, our fridge, microwave, everything, to make sure it all fits perfectly. . Now everything we don’t want you to see is hidden making for a much more tranquil environment, which is pretty important considering this area is right across from the shampoo bowls! . They met while traveling through Asia 5 years ago and have lived in Nicaragua, Spain, Alaska, England and New Zealand since then.⠀ .⠀ They are so different than anyone I know.
