Happy 4th of July! In honor of my disgust of the inhumane treatment happening to migrants & asylum seekers being held in “containment” camps, & the extremely expensive party Trump is throwing today, 15% discount & free shipping is extending to end of July & I’m donating 10% of the revenue earned from the time of my shop opening to the end of July to non-profits directly involved with abolishing ICE & reuniting families. Ive read enough first hand investigative journalistic reports factually stating the treatment of these individuals at the concentration camps & Im horrified- disease, not enough food, no bedding even for children, parasite outbreaks, people having to drink water from the toilet, being denied their meds, being held longer than legally allowed, and MORE. Not to mention that we’ve literally ripped families apart. As of January 2019 we had forcibly removed 3000 children from their parents. BUT that number does not accurately reflect the true scale of separations, including THOUSANDS that may have been separated in 2017 because the administration did not let on just how big the family separation process was getting. In 2018, it was reported by the federal government that they LOST 1500 children, which again is an inaccurate number considering the admin’s tendency to exaggerate in their favor regarding this issue. The abuse & neglect being inflicted to children & adults alike is unacceptable & inhumane. I admonish my community to cease turning a blind eye to this issue, particularly if you are religious, particularly if you are ‘pro-life’ (aka anti-choice) PARTICULARLY if you’ve EVER gone to another country for a “mission trip”. So while we celebrate American independence today, let us not forget the cruelty we wanted to escape & the abuse we are now allowing to be inflicted on innocents. This is real, and this is really bad. This is happening in OUR country & we are letting it. This will be going down in the history books, folks. • I’m still researching non-profits. As a cis/straight/cis/straight/white-male (benefactor of almost every priviledge to be had in this society) I have seen first hand how much clout the whiter/lighter voices get, especially in a "radical" setting. As someone with priviledge, it is imperative that myself, and those that share in this privilege, use our voices to amplify(and understand) the voices of those who's stories may more broadly fall to deaf ears. IT MATTERS WHO controls these narratives. If you are trying to be an "ally", instead of trying to start up a new movement or organization, RESEARCH WHO is already doing the work. Where is the money going? Another important aspect is learning about issues ON YOUR OWN. It does NOT fall to BIPOC/any other denomination of marginalized peoples to educate you on issues affecting people.. That being said you may have to be educated by those people in which case LISTEN instead of being defensive. EVERYONE needs to learn, everyone has things to work on.
