Story & lesson time! Thought I'd share about a big struggle of mine: acne.⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ It started 2004 and my family insisted that it was just puberty. I was pressured to stop being "so vain" and was never taken to a dermatologist.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ As my acne became more prominent, my self-esteem hit rock-bottom. It was painful, literally and figuratively. The cysts were always swollen and strangers would give me unsolicited hygiene advice. ‍♂️⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ To get to today, it has been a long road: 4x Accutane, countless products, and a whole revamp to my diet and lifestyle.⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ I learned a few things along the way:⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ 1️⃣Pharma should not be the end goal. Accutane was a big first step, but I ultimately had to treat deeper issues: stress, leaky gut, and diet. A steroid exhausts the liver and kidney to reduce oil production, but leads to inflammation and susceptibility to auto-immune disorders.⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ 2️⃣Acne is the body's radar system. It's a sign that we're ingesting foods or products that aren't agreeing with us. It may also signal internal biome and GI is damage. By viewing acne as a healing process, I started building a more compassionate relationship with zits to identify where healing needed to occur.⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ 3️⃣We are all different, requiring individual solutions. Our ethnicity, genome, diet, and lifestyle patterns impact how we respond to treatment. Avoid what's popular and find what works for you. It took me almost 10+ yrs to figure out what worked for me was unique to me.⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ 4️⃣Lastly, we live in a superficial society where beauty (unfortunately) affects strangers' first impression. I hate this! As my face started clearing up, I loved the influx of new unsolicited attention. But as I got older, it was disturbing to realize how vanity draws people in. Looking back, I am humbled with my acne history and I attribute my character and empathy to it. Now, I avoid editing zits from photos and using makeup in my day-to-day. More power to you if you do, but for me, this helps keep me grounded and centered away from unhealthy vanity.⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣ We'll never know why life gives us certain obstacles, but it's an opportunity to learn and grow into who we're meant to be. ♥️

my skin is not having it’s peak moment at the minute and i’m here to embrace it (swipe to see it without the “filter”, my inner perfectionist had to add the some hues, so that the feed won’t be ruined) :::: in my younger years i never struggled with acne, had some pimples, zits here and there but it never was dramatic in a way. i know that in comparison to what some people struggle with - what i have on my face right now is a piece of cake, but for me it’s a little bit annoying. ::::: yes, i said annoying. them red dots don’t make me want to cover my face, i know that at the minute it’d be the best not to put any makeup on but i have some responsibilities project wise where i simply have to cover them, so that my skin looks “flawless”, also let’s face the truth, we all want to have a beautiful, dewy skin, am i right? ::::: i don’t let it make me feel any worse tho, for real i had dots all over my face and body ever since i can remember (aka freckles). to me this is the way of my body saying that i don’t treat it well enough, that i don’t nutrition enough, that i eat too much junk food at times. it’s a sign that i have to take care of myself even more and i’m up for the challenge :::: how do you guys feel about the whole acne topic? have you struggled with it? does it dampen your self esteem? let me know, am super curious about it, ready to hear your stories all my love, san x #acneproblems #acnecoverage #acnestory #unfiltered #nomakeupselfie #selflovesanday #filterdetox

Another BEFORE & AFTER! This collage was made last month, and I was supposed to post them sooner. Here they are now! Stating the obvious, there’s been improvements on my skin not only that, but as well as with my confidence and I’ve been happier than before. I’ve learned things along the way, and one of them is “get rid of those things/people that aren’t good for you.” It’s not called being selfish, mean, or whatever you wanna call it, but it’s a way of giving yourself the respect and love that you need. here goes. I’m 22 and I have a rare and severely inflammatory type of cystic acne called acne conglobata. It came on very suddenly a few months ago after 10 years of nothing more than mild/ “normal” acne outbreaks. (The first two images are recent, the third is from earlier this year.)After receiving the diagnosis I googled it for 3 days straight but grew frustrated when I couldn’t find many recent, personal accounts of people who’s acne looked like mine. I’m a big believer in how seeing a representation of yourself can make you feel less alone. If you are going through something similar, well then, I feel ya, and we got this. ✨ I’m sharing my experience because I figured if I could take what has been a total nightmare and turn it into something that helps anyone who feels as lost as I often do, it would make it all worth it.
