What a view to wake up with!!!! I already thought that there would not be a sunrise, but my patience was more then rewarded when the sun broke through the clouds.
That’s the beauty about traveling- every day, we get to pick a new beautiful spot for the van and us. What‘s your favorite camping spot?

If you've been following along with my stories, you'll know we are nearly four weeks in to our year of Kieran's parental leave. (Canadians get up to 18 months of paid leave post baby)
So what lessons have I learned in four weeks of travel with a 5 month old?
1. Don't over plan the day.
Maybe this is obvious, but something I continually have to remind myself is to slow down. It seems to take double the amount of time to get anywhere or do anything, so jam packing the schedule is not going to be reasonable. While Elena sleeps awesome in the carrier whenever we go for hikes or walks, we give her a good hour to stretch out before another car ride or during breaks while walking. We also end up having to stop way more frequently to just observe things, feed, diaper change, whatever it is, it just means our pace is way slower than normal.
2. Some days you'll sleep, others you won't.
I think half of the nights so far we have managed a decent sleep. By decent, she still wakes up 5 times in the night. Other times, she is up every hour all night long. Over stimulation for her keeps her up and I haven't quite figured out what wakes her up in the middle of the night when it is pitch black out. All I do know is that lack of sleep for me also means over planning is a killer. It also means that I'll be searching for sugar kicks to keep me going the next day.
3. Take time for yourself.
Self care is hard when you're on the road and truthfully, this I need to work on better. We try our best to make moments for ourselves. When help is around, we pass off Elena to rest our arms and when possible, sneak for a run or a game of tennis. When no babysitters are near, we put her in the carrier and go for a walk to grab ourselves a treat since I'm perpetually tired and sugar addicted. Sure, I'd love a massage or an afternoon to go biking or kayaking, but good for the soul moments can be small but just as helpful.
4. Get outside whenever possible.
Sunshine and new places are fun for everyone.
I'm sure there are more, but this is a morning when I'm running on 4 hours of sleep so I am leaving it there. Have you travelled with a kiddo, what suggestions do you have?
Few things rival a good sunset in my opinion.
When we found our perch for the evening, we sat and listened as the waves rolled in and breathed in the salty air turning crisp as the evening faded to night.
This moment will be a fond memory and a great way to wrap up our month long BC trip, which truthfully I still have too many photos to post so you will be seeing more.
When we knew we had a month before starting the road trip and living full time in our van, for months we couldn't decide where to go. So we decided to have the closest thing to a staycation as we could and I'm so glad we decided take it slower to visit our families while enjoying the places we grew up.
Things are about to get real for us now. We are flying back to the Yukon and reuniting with our van tomorrow and camping out in the negative temps. Our van doesn't have insulation and we have been in the land of cherry blossoms for a month.
Most of the weather predictions for my destinations of choice the next two weeks are still calling for snow and overnight temps are below zero still.
I'm going to hang on to these memories of warm evening light on my face for a few days to come. 10pm sunsets and my beloved Yukon, I know you'll be beautiful but please don't let us freeze.
When we moved to Whitehorse, it seemed like I had an unlimited list of things I adored more about this place over the rest of the places I have called home.
The spell of the Yukon had me admiring the wilderness at my doorstep, the sense of communities in each town, and the adventurous spirit of those we met. Add in crazy beautiful landscapes and it was no wonder we called this place home.
But when I go down south, particularly to Vancouver Island and into the coastal rainforest, I can't help but miss these ancient giants of firs and cedars. 800 years in age, you can only imagine the lives that had lived in their shadows.
So we just spend our days soaking in their beauty and hope that the next generation to come will appreciate and have these legends around to enjoy.
I’ve come to realize I’m just a mom living on coffee and good intentions ☕️ And I’m very sorry to say that I (really) tried fitting into that mold of motherhood I thought actually existed . You know what I’m talking about... The fun mom, the stylish mom, the real mom, the hippie mom, etc. If you’re a mom scratching your head trying to figure out what “type” of mama you are, let me save you some time and tell you this. There is no type. You can be whatever kind of mom you want to be! Some days I wear 5 year old yoga pants with a stained tee and dirty hair. Some days I put makeup on and coordinate some type of outfit If I feel like getting crafty, we make it happen. If I don’t, it’s fruit snacks and cartoons . We do our best with a lotta love and a sprinkle of patience. And you know what, if that were a type of mama I’d say she’s pretty awesome
I hope you’re wearing a smile today http://liketk.it/2BnCg #liketkit @liketoknow.it .
