My takeaway from the trade deadline: Overall, I was very disappointed with the results of the deadline, especially with the Astros seemingly distancing themselves from the Yankees by acquiring Grienke and Aaron Sanchez. The singular deal the Yankees made was to swap Joe Harvey for Alfredo Garcia of the Rockies. But really, I’m not frustrated at Cashman at all. He didn’t have as many options as it appeared. Blue Jays were wary of dealing Stroman within the division, Indians didn’t want to trade Bauer to a team they could face in the postseason, Mets didn’t want to make a deal with us on Wheeler/Syndergaard, and the Diamondbacks had way too high of an asking price. While I hate to see Grienke go to the Astros, the Astros had to surrender a bunch of their top 10 prospects and eat up a large portion of Grienke’s ridiculous contract. Meanwhile, the D-Backs were demanding Clint, Clarke Schmidt, and 2 more prospects for Robbie Ray, who really isn’t worth near that. - The major takeaway from this is that not only do the Yankees believe in their current roster, but they’re also planning on being serious contenders for years to come, as Cashman hung on to Garcia and the rest of his top prospects. It does seem like the Astros may be the AL favorites, but we have to remember that reinforcements in Sevy, Dellin, and Giancarlo — guys who haven’t at all or barely seen the field this year — are coming down the stretch. - #weareyankeesnation #tradedeadline #briancashman
