✨ FIRST TRIMESTER FEARS When I was newly pregnant with my daughter, I was chatting with another newly pregnant mama & she asked me when it would feel set/real/safe - that this baby really IS happening + that she can settle in, letting worry go. We empathized back & forth with each other’s situations, eventually finding ourselves at an overwhelming truth of motherhood: there is no end to the worry - there is no set point in parenting where your child is ever guaranteed. You get past the first trimester - yay! It can feel reassuring, & most of the time, it is. And then there is the rest of the pregnancy for one, & the birth. Then early infancy, late infancy, when they start walking & swimming & la la la driving & dating. The loveworry will never end. I don’t mean to sound morbid. It’s the truth. The volatility of life mixed with the INCOMPREHENSIBLE depth of a mother’s love - it spans lifetimes. First trimester worries are normal, challenging, & often felt in solitude. AND - they’re great practice for us to learn the feeling of unattached yet all-encompassing love for another human being & of a process we have zero control over. What a trip.
