It’s time to unzip the truth about fashion. . We urgently need more transparency. . Fashion supply chains are huge and complex, with garments passing through many countries and factories before reaching the high street. But the label only says “Made in Bangladesh” . Within the story of a piece of clothing lies all of the secrets the fashion industry doesn’t want you to see. The rot, the child labour, the low wages, factory accidents, communities that are dying from the affects of pesticide or drinking water heavy with poisonous dyes. . Stellar work is being done by all manner of organisations and individuals for the same cause and that should be applauded, but brands just aren’t listening and with the UK Government frankly ignoring the evidence of a climate and human right emergency in the latest EAC report who are we supposed to turn to? . We have to do more ourselves to clean up the mess. I know that I can do more. Asking #WhoMadeMyClothes isn’t only reserved for @fash_rev week! Brands need to know that we care, all of the time. . So stay mad at fashion brands. Stay mad about those £1 bikinis, cultural appropriation, fake feminist t-shirts, backtracking on the promise of living wages, all of the filth that the fashion industry pumps out, how little it cares for its garment workers, and how little consequence they face for their abhorrent actions. . I need to see that brands admit they are at fault and are accountable for their workers and the environment. Tell me honestly, could you look me in the eye and admit you’ve never thought this? . If you can, you’re stronger than I am. . The “nothing to wear” mindset is common and nothing to be ashamed of. I often feel dissatisfied whilst looking at my own wardrobe. . We live in such a capitalist society, full of dirty advertising propaganda, aimed mainly at women to make us want things that we don’t need. Namely, fast fashion. But buying new doesn’t equate to happiness. . It’s everywhere, you see beautiful, harmfully unrealistic, uniform models wearing sought after clothes and can’t help but compare them to yourself even subconsciously. It’s plastered on public transport, telly, magazines, even as you listen to streaming services. You can’t escape it. . I want to mention the ways that you can reinvent your wardrobe when you get bored. . Go on, get everything out. Go through your clothes. Put them in a pile on your bed. Why don’t you wear certain things? How can they become your favourite again? . You can use embroidery, dye, even cut things up, re invent them, repair them. Have them altered if they don’t fit or take them to a clothing swap and share with friends. . If you’re really pushed, buy second hand or invest in sustainable brands, only if you really love and need a new item. The #30wears rule is a good one to only buy things you won’t get sick of. . If you’re like me, and avoiding buying new clothes but sometimes feeling bored of it I want to say that I’m with you and to remind you to remember the importance of why you started. The bigger picture, that it’s essential for us to buy less if we want to help stop the climate crisis. We also need to realise our privilege and support garment workers to ensure they are being treated fairly and demand a living wage. . The last thing we need to do is buy mindlessly. It won’t do any good for you, the planet, or garment workers. . För en aaalldeles för billig peng. . För vem tror du tillverkar dessa kläder? Produkter? . Det är i över 80% av fallen kvinnor. . Och vilka levnadsvillkor tror du dessa kvinnor har när du betalar 79.90 för din "smash the patriarchy" tshirt på H&M? . Det finns inget som är "billiga kläder"... någon måste betala priset för dem. Och just nu är det de fattiga kvinnorna, i fattiga länder, som betalar priset för att vi ska kunna överkonsumera kläder, som vi inte behöver... Det är åt helvete rent ut sagt! .
