Our brain is us so surely everything it says to us is true. How could it lie to us when it is us?!! But it does. It over exaggerates things or tells us things which simple are not true. Have you ever been convinced that something is going to happen but it turned out completely different? Or maybe you just knew a social situation would be awful but it didn’t turn out too bad? That’s your brain - lying! Don’t believe everything it tells you. Question it and rationalise any extreme statement. So instead of ‘they will definitely hate me, they always do’ you would say ‘maybe it will go better with them this time, what would happen if they liked me?’.

Depression is so much more than sadness. It's so much more than a dark cloud hanging over someone's head. It's a real problem people struggle with every day. We have to start empathizing more and do our best to understand what others are going through. Only then can we be in a position to truly help those in need.

I’ve struggled with generalized anxiety on and off for much of my life, and I treat it for a living. So I’m no stranger to the way it impacts family, friends, and loved ones to watch anxiety pop up at the most inconvenient of times.⠀

Honestly, I get how frustrating it can be to deal with someone else’s anxiety. No matter what you say or do, the anxious mind is pretty stubborn. Anxiety resists logic and doubts reassurance. It gets exhausting to listen to someone’s endless worries and fears, and feel like you’re powerless to make it stop.⠀

If you know someone struggling with anxiety (and you DEFINITELY do, it’s insanely common), ask them what would help when they’re in the thick of it. Please do your best to be patient. Nobody CHOOSES to struggle with anxiety. They aren’t doing it on purpose.⠀

Simply showing you care and you’re not judging them goes a long way. Even if you think what they’re anxious about is silly or irrational, remember that this is a mental health condition; it’s not rooted in logic or reason.⠀

I have gone through so many friendships that I thought would last a lifetime, but in reality most things are temporary. I’d always ask myself how hard it could be for someone that I value so much to not make an equal effort to see me as much as I do for them. Don’t get caught up in the fairytale dream, keep your circle as small as possible, if that means your only circle is family.. then make sure to never let go of that circle. #xenodiary
