Temple of Athena Lindia, acropolis of Lindos 4th century BC
Lindo is an ancient Greek city on the outskirts of Rhodes referred to by Homer; its flowering saw the light in the Doric era and was also part of the Dorian hexapolis.
Its acropolis is surmounted 116 meters high by the Doric temple dedicated to Athena Lindia, also from the 4th century BC
On the bases of the statues that adorned its interior were found epigraphs of the artists who executed them.
In an ancient epigraphic text we read the inventory of offerings and epiphanies of the deity.
The few remaining columns of the temple are a perfect example of the Doric order, with the metopes and triglyphs running along the frieze which are distinctive elements of this style unfortunately there is no pediment with the tympanum.

.
The Oval Forum in ancient Jerash.
The history of the city is a blend of the Greco-Roman world of the Mediterranean Basin and the ancient traditions of the Arab Orient. The name of the city reflects this interaction. The earliest Arab/Semitic inhabitants, who lived in the area during the pre-classical period of the 1st millennium BCE, named their village Garshu. The Romans later Hellenized the former name of Garshu into Gerasa. Later, the name transformed into the Arabic Jerash.

The Terracotta Army, Lintong District, Shaanxi, China.
The terracotta Army consists of about 8,000 warriors, 100 horses and 18 war chariots. This army was to serve symbolically in the afterlife the first Chinese emperor Qin Shi Huang (260-210 BC). The statues were found in a secondary complex of the mausoleum of the first emperor, but the burial chamber is at very deep levels and has not yet been excavated. The mausoleum was identified in 1974, thanks to the fortuitous discovery of a farmer. Previously the gigantic burial was believed to have disappeared.

Mada'in Saleh, Saudi Arabia.
Mada'in Saleh, also called al-Higr (rocky place) is an archaeological site located in the north of Saudi Arabia. In ancient times the city, known as Hegra, was inhabited by the Nabataeans.
Although Hegra was a remote outpost on the southern fringes of the Nabataean territory, traces of their civilization remained in this place. Remarkable are the monumental tombs carved from top to bottom, starting from a single block of sandstone. These structures are well preserved and date back to 100 BC and 100 AD.
Qasr al-Farid, the "Lonely Castle", is the most spectacular tomb. It is a colossal structure never completed, built in the first century BC. This monument still preserves the effigies and religious symbols carved about 2000 years ago. Photo by @alaa_oth

The Tomb of Amyntas, Fethiye, Turkey.
The Tomb of Amyntas is a Lycian tomb located in the city of Fathiye, ancient Telmessos, in the Province of Muğla in Turkey. Its name derives from a Greek inscription in which we read "Armyntou tou Ermagiou", which translates to "Amyntas, son of Ermagios". The Tomb dating back to 350 BC, was entirely built in the rock and has a spectacular carved entrance that represents the facade of an Ionic temple. This monumentality and its higher position compared to the other tombs excavated in the same rocky wall underline the importance of this character. A long series of steps leads to the Tomb of Amyntas, isolated from the other cave tombs, further proof of the high rank of this man, of which today only the name remains engraved in the rock.

The Egyptian archaeologists have discovered more than 40 mummies within 4 burial chambers excavated in the rock at the archaeological site of Tuna el-Gebel, in the Minya area (south of Cairo). The mummies belongs to the middle class and about a dozen of them are children. The archaeologists have estimated that humans date back to the Ptolemaic period, wich is termined with the death of Cleopatra and the Roman rule over Egypt. Some mummies are wrapped in linen and decorated with a demotic writing, a form of writing used by ordinary people. Numerous ceramic utensils, papyrus and sarcophagi were also found. The discovery is one of the greatest of recent times because it helps to rebuild the daily life of the ordinary people wo lived more than 2000 years ago.

Erechtheion, Acropolis of Athens.
As can be seen from the words of Vitruvius, with the name of Caryatids we refer to the architectural elements that represent sculptures of women, dressed in long tunics, used as columns in order to support architraves, shelves or other parts of a building. It is therefore an anthropomorphization of architectural figures. The function of Caryatids is active and not passive (a supporting and not decorative function), as they replace with their body the role of columns or leaves. One of the greatest examples to study and admire the Caryatids is the Erechtheum, a temple located on the Acropolis of Athens. The Erechtheum is composed of a central body which is flanked by two independent minors, the most fascinating part is the "loggia of the Caryatids" located at one end of the southern side of the temple.
